What should I do?

Guys I bought this auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230156775212&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=013

I just received the package today...and well the auction said that the games were in good condition and they were boxed with no description of writing.  Guess what...both Tagin Dragon and King Neptune the gems of the auction have writing all over them...what should I do guys?

How should I approach this with the seller or paypal or whatever?

What kind of price difference should I be asking for if any?

  • Man, this might be a hard one.

The seller didn't specify any return policy, and he only has one feedback comment as a seller, so it's hard to judge how he might react to someone that is dissatisfied with his product.

I would write him a message through eBay's messaging system and just simply state that you are not happy with what you received and that you feel that his auction description was misleading in the fact that it did not picture the actual games and there was no mention that the games had writing all over them. Direct and to the point, but without coming off like an ass.

It's a real shame that the games were in less than desired condition since that King Neptune box has that golden contest sticker on the front.

  • Man I had a $175 snipe on theese that I cancled at the last minute becuase I deicded to but something else.It is going to be very hard for somone that is not a nes collector to put a value on rare damaged games like that.Discount Games ripped me off on a Little Ninja Brothers instruction manual and offerd me a $3 refund.....come on that is crazy. There are plenty of people that would pay $10+ for it but that dosent matter to them.Good luck on getting a fair amount back on those games though.NOFRIENDO
  • have you tried using a magic eraser to get the marker off... It really works well!! would be worth a shot....

That's not the point.  Even if it does come off, the auction was misleading.
  • If the writing isnt on the labels magic pads will take it all off. The auction was very brief in the description. good condition to some might be as long as they worked there in good condition. If your not satisfied you could ask the seller if you could send them back for a refund
  • I would be interested in that Silent Assualt box and manual to help you recoup some of your costs if you don't need it image

  • First off, which ones had manuals and were the manuals in good condition? What about the boxes -- are they all in good condition? The reason I ask is because if the carts are the only things that are damaged, that would help to send him a refund amount to ask for. If both King Neptune's and Tagin Dragon both come with box and manual, and all of them are in great shape, then you still got a decent deal IMO. That Tagin' Dragon box alone is worth at least $50, the manual at least $20-25. But, that's not the point. I would put the value of a Tagin' Dragon cart-only in mint condition at around $50. With writing, I'd still put it at $25-30. Same with King Neptune's. I'd ask him to refund me $50 or you're sending them back with signature confirmation or filing a SNAD report with PayPal (snad=significantly not as described). But be *very* nice about it -- try not to put him on the defensive, as that will always backfire.

  • Some came with manuals...

Last Action Hero had a manual
Total Recall had a NARC manual instead
King Neptune had a manual in decent condition (not anywhere near mint) but it has a number written on it
Mig 29 had a manual in poor cocndition with a number written on it
    Captain Comic had a manual

    No manual for Silent Assault
and no manual for Twin Cobra

Tagin Dragon box ripped at bottom where it says Bunch Games
    Captain Comic box slightly ripped

All boxes have at least a sticker or two on them (they are small stickers).

My complaint mainly was about the carts...but as you can see the boxes and manuals and everything else had some issue.
  • Hmm... I'd probably ask him nicely for a refund.
  • That sux :\ I would ask him why he didnt mention it in the auction, then see what he replies and take it from there.
  • hmmm interesting i bid on this auction too, and i was wondering who ended up winning it. That sucks about the carts, but honestly how bad are they? can you post some pics of them???? Honestly marker can be removed, i have removed tons of marker from games i resell all the time. whether its on the label or not. What i always do is use goo gone, but you have to use it very thin for marker on label. I normally use a Q tip and rub at the marker really easy and it normally comes off.

Post some pics and ill let ya know if it looks like it can be saved. Also if your scared to do it, i would be willing to do it for ya free of charge. just pay shipping back and forth etc. But you have to be extremely careful when messing around the label. Especially with good gone because it can leak under the label if you get it on the sides of the label. And thats bad lol.

    Post some pics :-)
  • I actually use a combination of things.... I will first usually try some denatured alcohol on the cart itself and see what it will take off... (never on the label) then if that didnt get it all I try alittle goo gone. If that still didnt work I use the almighty magic eraser. That process almost always works for me. and using the magic eraser on the label doesnt hurt a thing as long as its not an AVE game. but yeah show some pictures and you can usually tell if its fixable or not...
  • Thanks for the help guys.  I took a BEFORE shot...and will take an AFTER shot.  I also sent a message to the seller...hopefully he will refund me a little bit (I hate sending this type of thing back...because I'd rather have something than nothing...and I have already gone through the trouble to restore the games).  Pics to come but only after I can get some sort of resolution with seller.
  • just wanted to say that i use mr clean magic erasor dipped in rubbing alcohol, to remove marker and it is the best way i have found to do it. just be carefull. and keep usind clean pieces of the erasor.
  • i wish i had saw that auction, i think you got a pretty good deal, but i would still ask for some money back.
  • okay this guy sent me this back in my response for a nicely offered $20 refund...

"was offered full ending price of the auction. if you didnt pay but ill think about the twenty refund. i could give you the ebayers name who offered that. thanks"

I'll try to post the pics of my items so I can get further help from you guys.  I thought asking for $20 considering the condition was a good compromise on my part.
