  • i read something that said they only made about 2000 copies
  • Loose carts are not that hard to come by. Just expensive and they seem to pop up in groups. Manual, maybe someday. Box, wasting your time.

As far as the list, I don't think that it is entirely accurate....

    EDIT:  ^^Try 200.

  • why not Mario? what's wrong with the list?
  • i would be happy with Cart only copy but im still going to look for a CIB.
  • Good luck with hunting it down. It's not far fetched to get one just will take some time.
  • And a lot of greenbacks.
  • i expect to pay alot for it but i feel my collection will never be complete without it.
  • hopefully no more than 5,000
  • I don't think I could ever see myself getting this.....unless I just saved 100 bucks a month strictly for this purpose....and I'd only go for a nice looking cart.

Unless something crazy happens, you shouldn't have to pay anywhere near that for a loose copy.  There has been a short drought, so the next one may come in a little high, but I'm thinking I'll be able to get one off of EBay in the next 18 months for a reasonable price.

I think he meant CIB. And if he did, that's to cheap, right?

I'd assume so, I guess it may depend on condition.  The only problem is that with the rarity of the box, its kinda a "take it anyway you can get it" sort of deal, so I'm pretty confident even the most beat up of boxes would break 5K.

I as well thought there were about 2000 in production before Nintendo took them over. I highly doubt that many copies still exist, but I thought it was 2000, not 200?
  • Huh? I think that we are arguing different points here. Someone will come in and correct the situation as I think that we have lost the point of this thread.
  • The box is really really really really hard to find. And I emphasize REALLY. I found more NWC gold carts than that stupid box. A CIB NES collection for US stuff is only possible if this box is acquired early, but it's nearly impossible to get one. There have been 3 on eBay in 10 years with a box. One I have from that first eBay auction from the original buyer. The other one ended up in burnambill's hands (but was on eBay lately), and the last one ended up with Braveheart. That means you have a LOT of people that do not have this box. This means big big big big money buyers will pay dearly for it. However, if it's not ON eBay, the price goes up, because it's a seller's market, and you make more selling it privately (just like gold NWCs) because it's something that just does not appear on eBay regularly.

Everyone has their prices to get rid of stuff, and I would sell SE if it's significantly over market value. The last thing I am ever getting rid of is that gold NWC. Or will it be the first thing? Hrmmmm...I won't be selling that until it reaches close to 100K...
  • a started the thread wondering the total of copies that may be left in the wild. and the 5,000 was for a loose copy i would hope i wouldn't have to pay that much but if it is for completing my collection im willing. i know CIB go for A LOT more like 10,000 maybe more or less. but all i was asking is for an estimate of how many are left in the wild
  • ^^^ LOL. Imagine somebody taking out a mortgage for your NWC Gold.

(Or...horror-of-horrors, be careful what you wish for, because hyper-inflation could make 100k for that game a reality pretty quickly)

You should be able to get a loose one for about $1500.  Depends on how long it will be before it pops up though...and if I get there first.  image

  • If I'm remembering correctly, the last SE cart on eBay did't even break a grand. It had some flaws, but still. I think these days if you're willing to pay 1500, you've got a decent shot at any loose copy that pops up on eBay.
  • The last one on ebay had a giant ciggaweed burn mark in it.
  • When I joined here I saw a $1400 SE cart sold in late November 2008....
  • I dont pay much attention to stadium event but Cib would probably be around $8,000 - $10,000 givin condition correct?

Any topic about SE is guaranteed to have way too many responses with very very few of them about the intended topic.

AFAIK the estimate is that roughly 200 copies were sold before it was recalled. It's not really possible to guess what percentage of those have been lost/thrown out/whatever, and how many collectors who don't come here have it. Given all of the unknowns, I think it's impossible to give a good guess as to how many are still 'in the wild'.

5000 for loose is pretty high, the most I've seen for a loose one was 1,876 dollars about 2 years ago, with the economy now, they are around 1200 or so, but there again, there has been a drought lately, but now is the time to buy.

I'd say plan on 1500 for cart, 1500 for manual, up to 8,000 for box

and about the subject at hand, I'd say closer to 200 out there, comes up less and less as years go by,

and oh yeah, I'm on that list!, and mine is minty fresh!!, thank god I got it for $101.10!

And there will likely never be any confirmation or data for the actual number made.  Estimates range wildly from 100 to 10000 with no real sources.  People can't even agree where it was sold  image
  • I don't think anybody knows how many copies of this game were produced. The two numbers I hear most often are 2,000 and 5,000, but how many were purchased before it was recalled? I don't think anybody will ever know the answer to that question. I am certain that there are several more CIB copies of SE that exist in the wild that haven't been found yet. The only question is when will they show up? I know of only 6 CIB copies that are in collector's hands, and I think less than 10 more CIB copies will be found in my life time, but that of course is just a guess as well.

DreamTR, if you've seen only 3 copies of this box for sale on eBay in 10 years, then where did DNG and Portnoyd acquire their copies of the box when they got them years ago? I know Portnoyd got his box from DNG so how on earth did DNG acquire 2 copies of this box?
  • Bronty'S sealed one come from eBay too ?
  • ^ Yeah, it did.
