HES Carts with built in lockout chip override and top loader - Carts get really hot

Hi,

I recently have purchased two HES carts (Jackpot and Little Red Hood) that are the version where the cart contains the lockout chip override inside.  When I try to play either of these games in my Nintendo brand top load NES the carts get extremely hot (where lockout chip override portion of the PCB is located)   Has this happened to anyone else and does anyone know why this occurs?  I turned the games off after a couple of minutes as I was worried they may catch on fire after an hour or so!!

Thanks for your help

Nick

  • Thanks Al !! That is exactly what is happening with these carts. I'll just play them on my toaster consoles instead. Warning to everyone. These carts get really hot in a top loader. I took the PCB out of the case and inserted just that PCB into my top loader. The chip on the board was hot enough to burn my fingertip in less than 2 minutes and even with the case on it gets very hot very fast.
