Test a SNES cart

Hello!

I need your help because I think you can solve my problems!

I have some old snes/N64 games that were stored in my attic for years and I would like to know if the data are fine and they are full working with no data corruption without opening it.

I cannot play them all because I don't have time for doing it and I prefere not to open them all.

What about dumping the data?

Any suggestion?

I'm worried they are oxidated inside or damaged..

Thanks

  • It probably takes more time to dump them than it does to play them. What's the time constraint here?
  • The easiest way to check for inner damage is to get a GameBit and open those suckers up. Even if you were to dump them, you'd need a known good dump to compare them to, otherwise dumping isn't of any use either. So, it's still easier (and less time consuming) to just start the cartridge in a SNES/N64 and play a bit. Just my two cents
  • Thank you, maybe I should edit the topic.. I would like to know I can I prevent the damages induced by batteries that "explode" in order not to damage the board or the ROM..

    Any suggestion?

The thing is, these batteries that are in the cartridges are the coin cell type. While I've never had them explode, I know they can leak acid. To prevent damages, it would be wise to open up the cartridges and swap out the batteries/clean the boards as soon as you can.

The battery acid tends to be able to eat away at the board over time, causing damages that aren't quite easy to repair.

  • Thank you

Is there a method to prevent that they leak acid? I mean, Without opening them.
  • Keep them cool and dry.
