Does The AV Famicom Have A Famicom Controller Port?

I was thinking of getting an AV Famicom, so I could use the NES controllers I've got, but last summer, I got a bootleg Famicom Zapper from Venzuela. It seems to be a little bit more accurate than the NES one, and it matches the canary yellow Famiclone 4 in 1 light gun multicart that came with it. I was looking at pics of an AV Famicom on eBay, and I noticed a very familliar EXT slot on the side. I have a Twin Famicom, but the power adapters keep getting frayed wires. I figure the AV Famicom would work with my Game Gear adapter if that ever happened again, just like the regular Famicom. I know I can use the NES Zapper, but I wanted to have a stand alone Famicom. Is that slot on the side a 15 pin Famicom controller plug, or is it something else?

  • The answer is yes.
  • Thanks. Looks like the AV Famicom is my best bet after all. I wanted something I could use my NES joysticks on, but I also wanted to have someone mod a player 2 Famicom joystick to have the 15 pin connection, so I could use it for my Famicom Legend Of Zelda cart. That, and my bootleg Zapper. I'm also planning to get the NES to Famicom pin adapter, so I can use it as an NES Top loader. I've always wanted to see if the mic trick worked on the NES version of Zelda. Never took the chance when my Twin Famiocom was working. Still need to get the pin adapter, though, but they're pretty easy to find on eBay. Cheap, too. That, plus it would still be fun to have the mic to play NES games. Play by play commentary might make the sports games more fun.
  • It may mess up...I know I wired up the player 2 mic controller to work on a NES and itd "pause/freeze" the game as soon as I plugged it in and cause weird glitches on screen...was a fun experiement.
  • Yes, but that was on an NES. This is a Famicom, so if I got a Neo Geo extension wire and a cheap player 2 Famicom controller on eBay or somewhere else, then try to figure out how to mod the extension wire to work as a Famicom conroller wire, I should have no problem getting it to work on the AV Famicom's 15 pin Famicom contoller port. Apparently, the only Zapper I'd be able to use is the Bootleg Famicom one I mentioned, which I'm fine with. If I want to play NES or Famicom light gun games with the NES Zapper, I'll just use the NES slot on my RetroN 3, and a pin converter for the Famicom games. I barely use the CTR TV in the basement as it is, but when I feel like playing Duck Hunt, Wild Gunman, or Hogan's Alley, at least I know it's there!
  • Yes. The only thing it lacks is support for accessorie controllers for NES. The D3 and D4 inputs on the controller ports are disconnected. There is a simple mod available to add zapper support on player two but jumping two wires from the 15-pin accessory port.
