Looking For A Cheap Twin Famicom Power Adapter

I've had bad luck with Twin Famicom power adapters. The one that came with the system had the wire get frayed at the 'box' end, were the plug is. The replacement I got from someone on Famicom World broke on the OTHER end, where it plugs into the console. Is there a cheap (under $20) option online that would work? The eBay options are over $20, plus shipping to Canada. I'm on a limited retro gaming budget, and anything over a certain price needs a few weeks worth of saving for.

  • Let me make this easy for you. The PsONE AC adapter is a perfect (and cheap) replacement for the the Twin Famicom. You just have to solder on a new power jack that fits the diameter of the Twin Famicom, and match up the proper polarity. I did the mod and it works wonderfully, but I'll check my notes and get that jack diameter & tip polarity for you.
  • You could also grab a third party cord on ebay for far cheaper than first party, just do some research.
  • Here's the one you want: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000Z31G3M/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_8?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

set it to 7.5, with the appropriate sized adapter (the largest one in the picture, with the black outline) lined up so that + is lined up with TIP. This is the one I've used for years without problems. No soldering required. You're welcome :-)

That is not a bad option, but if you want to spend a bit less pick up some 5.5X2.5mm plugs on ebay and follow the polarity notes here: http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=6933.0 . Either option will serve you well though. Good luck!

  • Thanks, but I see a problem with both options. I'm not good enough with a soldering iron to fix the PS1 adapter, and the Amazon link wouldn't work because they only take credit cards that I don't have. I'll check my local electronic store tomorrorw, when I'm in town. If all else fails, I'm going to a city with a Best Buy at the end of June. They might have what I'm looking for!
  • Use search function :-)

  • No Radio Shack stores in Canada anymore. The local electronic store doesn't sell 7.5 v capable AC to DC adapters in stores, and I'm not 100% sure I can pay on their website with PayPal. Would this work?  http://www.thesource.ca/estore/product.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&category=PowerCords&product=8000630 If not, I found a few 3rd party adapter from Japan and France when I searched eBay for 'Twin Famicom power adapter'. They cost about $20 - $30, but I wouldn't be able to get one until July, due to saving for an Anime con at the end of next month. Even if I did get one online, I'd still have to wait a month or so for it to get here. Anything that goes through Quebec to get to New Brunswick gets stuck in Monreal for 3 weeks. I'm looking for a local option. Would a Canadian Best Buy possibly have it? Where I'm going for the con has a big one.
  • Hmmm... Enercell seems to be one of Radio Shack's house brands so I doubt that Best Buy would have it. If shipping was not an issue I would try to work a deal out with you, but post options are strange up there. However, if you change your mind let me know and maybe we'll be able to get something going.
