  • haha, right. Well, what can I say...when it comes to gaming, I'm cheap!

I started retro collecting back around the turn of the century when I was broke and in college.

During that time it was reasonably easy to walk into a pawn shop and find a stack of games for $10.

I suppose I never broke out of the habit!
  • Went out hunting a couple days ago and found some ok stuff.

    Local game store:

    Project Overkill-PSX-Complete $4

Pretty much retail, but I've been looking for this guy for some time. Happy to have it!

Walked into a goodwill, figured there'd be nothing, because it was practically sundown, but then I found these 11 boxed saturn games for $44. it was a package deal, meaning I had to buy all or nothing. Obviously some games left alot to be desired, but my saturn library up to now consisted of around five games, so good or bad, I was going to bite the bullet, just so I had some software to play on this darn thing. All and all, I think I did ok.

    Here are the games:

Daytona - CIB (had this one already.)

    Cyber Speedway- CIB

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3- boxed, no manual

    Off World Intercepter Extreme- CIB

    Solar Eclipse- CIB

    NBA Jam: Tournament Edition- CIB

    Robotica- CIB

    Soviet Strike-CIB

I traded the three below for about a $1.50 credit at a game store. The cases were busted, I already had F1 at home, and feel the golf games would just be taking up space.

    F1 Challenge-CIB

    Pebble Beach-CIB

    VR Golf-boxed, no manual

So after all is said and done, I got eight games for $42.50

It's not the best deal, it's not like I'm going to make the money back selling off one or two of these games, but I am really happy to have a more robust library for my saturn. Also, after looking up some of these games like Off World and Robotica, I'm pretty excited to play them!

  • Hell of an adventure. Love the story about the guy digging through the box and trying to hide what he was buying. Sadly that's what I do as well. I've had too many resellers grab stuff out of my hands, buy things I'm holding, or look it up and show the seller so they will up the price and they can get the deal.

Also, little late but, ZOMG AX BATTLER! The only reason to own a Game Gear at all, as far as I can tell, is that game and Dragon Crystal. And for $2! Crazy awesome.

If you still have that sticky button controller from the first post one easy way to possibly fix it is buy a toothbrush, get some rubbing alcohol, soak the brush, and scrub the buttons. The bristles will reach in and fix it quick and easy.

Traysia...sick . Not very common at all.  A CB or CIB of that more than makes up for the cost. You could sell that for more than you paid alone. Nice find.

That sounds like some really dirty pool going on in Cali...I can't believe someone would try to up-sell you like that right in front of the dealer. Good luck out there in the Thunderdome.

I know...Ax Battler. REALLY nice find in the wild. I had this one as a kid and played it quite a bit. I've NEVER seen it for sale prior to this. My eyes went wide when I found  it.

Shining force was pretty good on the system, and there are a few decent shoot-em-ups.

Thank you so much for the controller fix! I'll give it a shot!

Yes, I was the most excited about Traysia, as the box art is just awesome. It IS CIB, btw, but I will be keeping it.

If you look closely in that awful picture I took, you'll see a copy of Zelda four swords for the GBA. I sold that to recover the cost of the lot.
  • More finds this week, kind of all over the place.

Last thursday, hit a couple of local stores:

    Uncharted: Drake's Fortune-PS3-sealed-$2

    Infamous -PS3-sealed-$2

    Infamous 2-PS3-sealed-$2

These PS3 games are not in the usual plastic cases, but in cardboard envelopes. I suppose these came packed in with some of the later systems.

    Star Trek Invasion-PSX-CIB-$1

    Store #2-

Twisted Metal: Head On- PS2- CIB- $2.50

    Store #3-

Super Smash Brothers Melee-GC-disc only- $20

    Friday-

    Game store in Indiana

    Black Belt-SMS-CIB $4

    Pokemon Coliseum-GC-disc only- $10

    Pawn Shop, same town.

Uncharted 3, Game of the Year Edition, online pass unused- $4

    Game Store in Illinois

    Retro Game Challenge-DS-game only- $5

    Saturday-

    Game Store

    A strange pick up.

They had this random black drawer sitting with some Atari games. I asked for a price, and the guy just gave it to me. I actually knew what it was: its a drawer to a Dynasound NES console travel case. If you're really curious what it looks like, just search Ebay.

I have one, but they aren't easy to find, so I figured a second drawer would be nice to have if the one I have breaks.

    Sunday

    Game store in Illinois

    Atari 2600 games

    Ms Pacman

    Space Attack

    Frogger

    Astrosmash

    a dollar for the lot.

Very excited about Uncharted 3. I played ALOT of UC2 online and am currently really into Last of Us online, so no doubt I'll get alot of use out of UC3.

Really happy about the Twisted Metal find too.

I've also started hiding the good games. Lately I've been seeing more and more resellers popping up (I just know the type) and I've had a few start following me at large community sales, knowing I ask about games. Fucking annoying as hell...I wanted to slap this one bitch who wouldn't stop following me and getting in my way. But when I do find something good, I hide it under some other games or under whatever I happen to also be getting before I go up and ask the person for a price. Not that any of those fucking resellers could pry a game out of my hands...I'm usually to quick to look over the games, snatch up the good stuff and run to the seller to pay for something before some arsewipe tells him how much it costs.

  • Nothing like game-hunting to start the week off right.

    Indoor Flea Market

Crash Bandicoot-PSX- CIB, black label- $4

    Castlevania: The Adventure-GB-$4

    Game Store

    Goonies 2-NES- $2

    Track and Field-NES-$2

    Gyromite-NES-Free

    2 first-party Playstation 2 multitaps- $2 each

Shooter: Starfight Sanvein-PSX-CIB- $3 (probably overpaid on this one but its another A1 game!)

    Thrift Store-

Atari flashback 2 with hook ups and two controllers- $5 (nice thing about the Flashback 2, the controllers actually work in an actual Atari as well.) No box, but very nice condition.

    Game store-everything below was $3.33

    Raiden Trad-SNES

    Darius Twin-SNES

    Lagoon- SNES

    Arknoid: Doh it Again- SNES

Shadow of the Colossus-PS2- Disc only

    Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters-PS2

I'm happiest with Raiden, and the Atari Flashback. I actually have a Flashback 2 already, and a real atari, but I didn't have any actual atari 2600 controllers. I usually just use (and prefer) genesis controllers, but these are nice to have.
  • Killer find this morning at a thrift store!
    The elusive Wonderboy 3!
Unfortunately, no manuals except for the psx long box, but otherwise, Awesome stuff! The whole lot was $11!
  • Ugh double post! I'm terrible with pictures

haha, that sounds like it was a double-lucky day!
  • Another nice week. Found some good deals and a couple gems.

    Thrift Store, last wedsday:

Stopped by this place to pick up some cheap clothes hangers, walked out with a smile.

Sonic Adventure DX (Gamecube) - no manual, $1.25

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (Gamecube) - Complete, $1.25

Mario Kart Wii- no manual, $3

    Ratchet: Deadlocked (PS2) Complete, $1.25
  • Last Thursday. I was bored on my lunch hour, and decided to hit a pawn shop. Man, am I glad I did.

The place had pretty much just opeded. There was one other dude there going through the old PS2 games. I suppose he didn't notice the Green N64 still on the electronics shelf.

The store had it marked for $30. Nice price, but again, I'm cheap. Upon closer inspection though, I realized I couldn't pass this up. Some pen notes had been added to the price tag.

"$30, includes two controllers, and five games."

Aha...games. Perhaps there's  double I can make the price back on?

I ask the clerk if I can see the rest of the stuff. He pulls a bag out from the back and to my delight, one of the controllers is the matching jungle color. The second one is yellow, both in very nice condition, as is the system itself.

By this time, the dude trolling the PS2 stuff walks up and starts complaining about how he didn't see it. I reply with" hey, you got NBA 2010 there for the PS2, how bout that?"

I start going through the games:

    Ready to Rumble Round 2

    Turok: Dinosaur Hunter

    WCW NXO Revenge

    Donkey Kong 64

    Mario Kart 64

Seeing MarioKart makes me smile. Just the double I needed to make up the money on this deal. DK would also be a double for me, so I shop around a bit more and find Metroid 2 for Gameboy and Gradius Collection, disc only, for PSP. These two were $5 each.

After selling the doubles the same day,  I broke even, getting the whole lot for free.
