  • This game looks awesome!! You think it will ever be on a Cart??
  • Hmm, it would be cool if this game was given a proper name as opposed to "Mario Adventure 3", since this is technically the only sequel it got. Ideas from MA2 are being put in as well, so maybe this could be called something like Mario's Expedition or something. Either way this looks cool!
  • I hope it could be on a cart! how do those repro sites work? does he getting any cash when they sell Mario Adventure?
I am sure you could message him on YouTube and tell him your idea. I was hoping Mario Adventure 3 was only the working name.
  • I still need to get the original Mario Adventure on a repro cart, as is I know I'd enjoy that game alot. From the videos I've watched so far of this Mario Adventure 3, I can definitely say that I'd love to get this on a repro cart as well.
  • He could also maybe try RetroUSB.

I would love to purchase this game if it was put onto a cartridge, and even more if it came with it's own box and manual as well.

Heck, he should contact Nintendo themself to get the game on the Wii U/3DS shop, since it looks to top the original.

    One can always wish ^^;

DahrkDaiz wouldn't benefit from contacting Nintendo about this project. He's working on a modification of a copyrighted title, which may not sit well with Nintendo's legal department. All in all, it would've been sweet if it were possible. Same goes for the original Mario Adventure. The possible legal ramifications are too great to do this.

There are various other projects that were canceled by Nintendo due to copyright claims. Among which full-on remakes of Chrono Trigger for the PC.

  • Yeah, I really doubt Nintendo would agere to release such a hack but it has happened before, MS. Pacman started out as a hack and when the creators actually decided to contact Capcom, they were so impressed that they actually bought the hack from then, this is why there there doesn't really exists such a thing as a MS Pacman game, only the original with snottet board on top that contains the hack.

This is what I've heard anyway.

That was over 30 years ago of course and things have certainly changed a lot since back then.

But didn't Capcom also license a Mega Man/Tekken fan game not too long ago?

I think that the game companies should support these developers and their games, fans usually have the best idea about a franchise's strong points.

Like I said, one can always dream

I have no idea whether or not Capcom did that. What I do know is that there is a vast difference between Capcom and Nintendo. Their stances on fan-made games are totally different.

I know at least a few fan-made MegaMan games in the works that Capcom isn't actively persuing. Nintendo, however, is actively searching the net for certain franchises and ROM websites.

Chrono Trigger isn't Nintendo's game, they don't have shit to say about its copyrights. Square Enix is the culprit here.
  • But, you'll have to wonder. What could Nintendo lose on endorsing these kind of projects?

The developer is doing it for free, it's promoting the franchise, and as long as the game doesn't do anything out of line, why would any company be against it.

It doesn't really matter though, I'd much rather play it on the original toaster, I'm just saying it would have been cool if Nintendo actually made this official, which I know is a 1 in a million thing, so, no need to remind me

Mario is a huge brand, they obviously want to be in control of how it is perceived. Mario Adventure, for example, is way too difficult when compared to Nintendo's Mario games. On top of that, endorsing these types of projects wouldn't line up well with Nintendo's distaste for emulators and ROMs (http://www.nintendo.com/corp/legal.jsp#roms)

Obviously, they could gain big on community points by supporting these projects, but we all know Nintendo isn't that company.
  • Hey guys, this is a pretty old bump. Here's a new 30 min video of the game which is now called koopa kingdom escape

It looks absolutely amazing. Totally excited to play it
  • Very cool! I love this guys creativity and how he utilizes ideas from later Mario games and makes it work in the Mario 3 engine. I liked Mario Adventure but honestly, I thought the difficulty got ramped up way too much in later levels making it less enjoyable for me. I hope that's not the case with this one...
  • Nintendo had Princess Rescue pulled from the Atari Age store, a homebrew port of Super Mario Brothers to the Atari 2600. All the names of the enemies were changed, but the audio and graphics were pretty good approximations for the original game. Nintendo sent AtariAge a C&D order after IGN did a video review that sort of went viral, but the ROM is still freely available for download. It became an instant collector's item overnight. Why they want to bully a homebrew tribute game while sites selling repros are running rampant (including the awesome RetroUSB), is anybody's guess.
  • That Koopa Kingdom Escape looks very well done. Hopefully it's able to be put on a cart. Anybody have any idea when it will be completed? Assuming it's still being worked on of course..

not sure on completion date. The dude has been posting videos since last year on this game. He is still working on it. The 30 min video was just put up and he has a new one today that features that freeze guy from Mario Bros Arcade!
  • The game looks incredible, but could the 6502 handle it?

I'm wondering that myself, it looks like DahrkDaiz is rolling a Virtual Console title for the Wii. I don't know whether he actually tests on an actual NES or not.
  • ohh yeah, looks fun!

Yes, it can. This hack is being developed for the 6502/NES after all.
  • Thank you for alerting me of this game's existence. It's really impressive thus far and I'm excited to give it a try.
