Differences Between The NES Repro And Famicom Mother Carts

If I used my pin converter on a translated Famicom Mother cart, would it be the same thing as having an NES cart, or would it be like Doki Doki Panic when I hook up the RAM cart on my RetroN 3 NES slot, and there would be missing sounds? Would it be cheaper to just buy a Famicom Mother cart and send it to get it turned into a repro cart, or is there a difference between that and an NES repro cart? I ask because as far as I can tell, only one game, Deja Vu, is cheap enough for me to buy, once you factor in the cost of shipping from eBay, the $25 NES Reproduction charges for a repro job, and the shipping to and from wherever he might be. Buying the Famicom cart, however, isn't the best for my budget, either. If I wanted to do the game as an NES cart, I'd still need to buy a pin converter to play it on my Twin Famicom, once I get a decent power adapter for it.

  • I have both an original Mother cart and one with the Earthbound Zero version switched to play in English. I'm not aware of newly pressed carts of if the ROM are burned and socketed in place of the old ones, but the red shell wins my vote. It feels slightly weird to play the huge NES carts in a Famicom...
  • There is zero difference here. Earth Bound / Mother uses TKROM, which is exactly the same between Famicom and NES aside from the number of pins on the edge connector. You even wire the EPROMs the same way between both.
