How to reprogram a Game Action Replay?

I found a game action replay for sale and I want to buy it. It does work right now but I dont know if its just a 30 year old battery that hasnt gone dead yet or of its been replaced. The thing is, I heard that when the battery goes dead, the device memery goes also so even when you replace the battery, it needs to be reprogramed. So im thinking that ill have to reprogram after replacing the battery because for a few seconds it will have no battery in it. I dont know if it would lose its memory instantly or if it takes a few minutes with no power. So I guess my question is two fold. Can I just switch out the battery(current one is good but I dont kniw for how long) or will I need to reprogram it and if so, how?

  • If you put the new battery in parallel before removing the old, it won't lose power.

If it does die, or is already dead anyone with a CopyNES (like the site) above can reprogram it after the new battery is in.
