Ferris Bueller's NA Videos!

I had been debating on making something like this thread for a while. I know, I know, there's the catch all thread for videos, but these videos are ones I did just for ya'll. I look at theese videos like the ezine articles, and back in the day we made a thread for each one and discussed them. I don't want a thread for every video I make, but I'd like to have a place to discuss what I've shot since I don't post on youtube and don't get any comments from Vimeo. I'm curious if you guys like the content, did you enjoy what I presented, were the interviews informative, yet entertaining? Stuff like that. I'm really open to any ideas, any help, or whatever else you can think of.

Basically, I look at these as video journalism. I'm always going to try and give a nonbiased, but enthustiac look at whatever it may that I have most recently gotten myself into. Before anyone gets pitchforks, I talked to Dain early on and made sure he was okay with what I have been up to. I wanted this to be an offshoot from the ezine, kinda like a video-zine, if that's a thing. I try to keep everything PG seeing as I have used the NA logo on the video to drum up some PR for the forum. I should probably be doing more promoting, but these things are kinda niche... meaning they're for nerds, I'm really just doing them for fun, and I'm not sure where to even start posting stuff like this besides here, haha!

Below are the videos I have done in the past and from now on I'll update the OP with whatever I have just finished. Sometimes they are good enough to adorn the front page. I hope you guys enjoy them and as long as I'm still having a good time, I will probably keep making them!

I just finished editing Jared's Epic Party, which is below. After that, I have enough footage to do four more videos right now. They just take time and I'm always busy with something. If I can do five of these a year, I'll be pretty happy.

MOST RECENT VIDEO

MAGFest 2016: "The best MAGFest video you'll never see."

MAGFest is upon us once again (January 5-8, 2017), which means it was time for me to edit all my footage from last year. This is coverage of MAGFest 2015 that I shot for the internet Nintendo collecting forum, Nintendo Age and the Let's Play Gaming Expo. My longest video to date, I submit that this is all killer and no filler. I'll take the Pepsi challenge against anyone else's video, I'm that confident in this editing feat.

Interviews include some of my favorite artists in the vendor area, the guys behind my favorite event "Zombie Tag", and a quick chat with fellow NA member "K3VBOT" on how he's helping put the spotlight on homebrew games for the NES! Highlights would be all the behind-the-scenes footage of throwing a giant con, a newly created product for my production company, and all the fun that goes with taking a small green screen across country!

OLD VIDEOS

SUPER! BitCon 2016

This is coverage of Super! BitCon that I shot for the internet Nintendo collecting forum, Nintendo Age, and the Let's Play Gaming Expo. Interviews include Jason, a guy who competed in the Nintendo Powerfest back in the 90s, and Phil Moore, the host of Nick Arcade, a TV show that was also from back in the 90s.

Highlights from the weekend would be the LPGE competition kart making it's first return appearance at a convention, the volunteer room ball pit for relaxing between shifts, and did I mention I interview Phil Moore? Seriously, what a cool guy!

Also, the Let's Play Gaming Expo is happening June 18th and 19th in Dallas, Texas.

Jared's Epic Nerf Battle

This is coverage of Jared's Epic Party in Dallas that I shot for the Let's Play Gaming Expo. I again did my best to try and capture what I could in terms of the spirit of the event. Like the Epic Vanilla Ice party, there were a lot of good vibes in the house that Jerry built.

If you weren't there, man... you missed out.

This time I totally showed the Guinness World Record Nerf gun battle, and it was indeed epic. The purpose of the event was to raise money for Rebuild Rowlett Foundation for Long Term Relief, administered by the Rowlett Chamber of Foundation, and Garland Tornado Relief Fund (Communities Foundation of Texas, Inc.). In the end, over $14,000 and a few hundred nerf blasters went to charities!

Super! BitCon 2015 - NintendoAge/Let's Play Gaming Expo Recap

https://vimeo.com/124441897

I had so much fun at Super! BitCon two weeks ago, that I actually sat down and edited footage right away! This is coverage of Super! BitCon, that I shot for the internet Nintendo collecting forum, Nintendo Age. Interviews include Joe Sullivan, owner of a full MACS set, and Orange Rex, all around cool dude and once upon a time a play tester for Nintendo.

Highlights from the weekend would be the Let's Play Gaming Expo competition kart rolling around with one of only a dozen copies of PowerFest 94. Sadly, this was not it's first appearance, but the second since the actual Nintendo event in 1994.

Did I mention that the Let's Play Gaming Expo is happening August 1st and 2nd?

"That Man Stole My Bike!" - MAGFest 13

https://vimeo.com/118377688

Well, I attended MAGFest for the first time last week. For those of you that don't know, MAGFest stands for the Music and Gaming Festival held at the Gaylord just outside Washington DC each year. It's like Disney World for nerds, only with video games instead of archetypal characters. And while I was running around shooting video for my recaps the entire time, the best footage I saw was from someone else!

This clip was from another attendee who saw my camera and asked if I wanted to see what they got on their iPhone the day before. I could not stop laughing. Hands down, best cosplay of the weekend. With no further ado, I present...

PRGE 2013

Well, PRGE is this weekend and I can't be there. But what I can do is watch this video I made of last year to tide me over! This is coverage of the Portland Retro Gaming Expo that I shot for the internet Nintendo collecting forum, Nintendo Age.

Interviews include me talking with Rich from ThisOldGame.com about some Arcade games he made from scratch, DJ Switch about what it's like to provide the tunes to an entire convention, and a followup interview with Marc Ericksen on whether or not Mega Man's foot is broken. Highlights include the unveiling of the HDMI NES prototype from RetroUSB.com, a heated game competition at the Saturday Morning booth, and a group shot of all the NAers in attendance last year.

Too Many Games 2014 wraps up today, and while I couldn't attend this year, I had one last video from 2013 to share with all of us who couldn't make it to Philly! This is coverage of the Too Many Games Expo that I shot for the internet Nintendo collecting forum, Nintendo Age.

Interviews include Vinnie Crisafulli (creator of homebrew games Dragon Feet and Dragon Leap for the Nintendo), Jeff Ryan (author of Super Mario: How Nintendo Conquered America), and DJ Cutman (chiptune artist extraordinaire), who tries to explain to me just what exactly chiptune is. Highlights would be me interfering with the Roast of the Angry Video Game Nerd, Keith Apicary's shenanigans on stage, and a lot of DDR. Must be a New England thing!

Retron 5 Interview - Too Many Games Expo 2013, Philadelphia

https://vimeo.com/83678010

Just in time for the release of the Retron 5, here is an interview with them from this past summer at the Too Many Games Expo in Philadelphia. I shot this for the internet Nintendo collecting forum, Nintendo Age. Highlights include the new menu system, save states, tons of options, and best of all, cheats!

This interview took place on June 16th, 2013. I was extremely hungover and forgot to get at least half a dozen pick up shots that would have been nice to have when editing.

Portland Retro Gaming Expo 2012: Day 2

https://vimeo.com/75033369

Just in time for PRGE 2013!

This is coverage of the 2012 Portland Retro Gaming Expo that I shot for the internet Nintendo collecting forum, Nintendo Age. Interviews include Will Lewis (founder of the Portland Indie Game Squad), Chris Jorgensen (inventor of the Game Dock), Audrey Angel (granddaughter of Intellivision creator), Scott Boothby (builder of cool stuff), and the 70's ninja warrior himself, Bill Carlton (I believe multiple world record holder).

Highlights include PRGE attendees being goofy in the background, interview interruptions by the announcer, and me misspelling Chris Jorgensen's name on the lower third because I forgot to press record when he spelled it out. Doh!

And to give you an idea of how much stuff goes on at PRGE, in two videos I didn't even have a chance to touch on any of the panels they had, the PRGE auction (which was hours long), or the Tetris World Championships, now entering their fourth year.

Highlights include an explanation of why Megaman is holding a pistol on the cover of Megaman 2, how we finally got a copy of Cheetahmen 1, and why the world's first gamemaster wears bow ties!

  • Looks like it was one hell of a party!!! Thanks for sharing the recap video!
  • I always enjoy you video's great work playa.
  • That is awsome!
  • Very nice! I'd suggest lengthening the video to include a full interview with the turtle wrangler girl though.
  • That party looked pretty sweet! Bring on some more videos.

On a separate note I found this video while researching what Jared's Epic Party was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=us0HMWVPv_M Now I'm going to have to pick myself up some Mac and Cheese!
  • Nice video! Looks like it was quite a jam!
  • Hey-o, front page of NA!

Thanks Dain. I never expect to make it, but I do always hope really hard it'll be good enough to earn a place there.
  • Just watched your video Ferris... Looked like a total blast!

Did you get a chance to hang out at all during the night, or did you have to do security all night like a hawk at the NA booth?

Hope you got at least a little while of fun.

(Awesome powder blue suit jacket too?)
  • Man, I can't wait to share these next two videos. I'm psyched.

  • This was my favorite video of yours so far. Love the outfit. I want to see you in a sailor suit next time.

But seriously, great job. Keep 'em coming!
  • I think it's the best work I've done.

I was really happy with how both videos turned out. Now that these are done, I can start going after the big interviews I wanted to do. Needed this one to showcase my talents! Crossing fingers for this next year.
  • Man, that bald guy with the glasses on his head around 9:35 looks like a hero!
  • Nice job on the video. I agree with what others have said, hilarious costume. Well edited video, and you (personally) came off well. Well spoken, with a bit of humour thrown in.

...Far too often in some videos, the interviewer, or people involved just seem awkward. Yours didn't come off that way at all. Good job. I look forward to future videos.
  • Well, one last video to wrap up last year's Too Many Games. I meant to have this done a week or two back, but had a rush order gig come through and didn't get to have this done in time for Paul to use it as hype. Oh well, when you ain't getting paid, you move just as quick!

He was just doing what I would've done in the same position, but it was too funny and too easy for me to pass that up when editing. I literally walked up on them like right before it was about to start.

Got a few updates I need to make. I wanted it up before TMG was over, but it looks like the credit got dropped at the end and my buddy hadn't color graded it like I usually do before posting. But thanks man, I'm happy with how all these videos have been going.

  • Just a quick shout out to On Being Human. They have a show over on Retroware TV and the opening theme to the Game Chasers is one of their songs.

I used their sound clip thinking Billy and Jay were cheap and only used royalty free music. On Being Human is not royalty free. They're for serious and sell their music at their site, onbeinghumanmusic.com. I caught my mistake when I was giving credit in the description after uploading the video, so I sent them an email seeing if I could leave it up as is.

Their reply was pretty badass. Not only did they say it was okay to use their song, they sent me their entire discography pretty much and gave me permission to use their music from now on in my videos. So I got that going for me...

Close to 700,000. I think on my first run I got 625,000 and then the winner, she got like 675,000. I was upset, because I thought I might hold the high score through the weekend.

Midwest Gaming Classic 2015 - NintendoAge/Let's Play Gaming Expo Recap

    https://vimeo.com/christiandeitering/mcg2015

Last month was the Midwest Gaming Classic (MGC), and I was there! This is coverage of MGC, that I shot for the internet Nintendo collecting forum, Nintendo Age. Interviews include Doc Mack from Galloping Ghost Arcade talking about new and rare cabs, and Troy Roberts from Galactavision schooled me on the Occulus and what the future of 3D gaming holds!

Highlights from the weekend would be the MGC cosplay contest, with special surprise winner, Zack from Warlocks, Games, and Beer being inappropriate, and for me, getting to meet so many of the guys off of NintendoAge in person!
