Is there a way to replace the batteries in Gameboy/NES games?

All of my pokemons died a horrible death after 10 years...image even now I tired to play then saved and the save died...is there a way to open it up and replace the battery so it can save again?

  • Fixing batteries for NES games is also very easy. I believe there is a tutorial in one of the older ezines as well. I have a ton of batteries for nes carts too if you need one, let me know.
  • It's easy if you tape the battery in, but soldering the new batteries in is a bear until you get the hang of it. The solder doesn't want to stick to the batteries, and you have to be very careful to not overheat the battery and cause it to explode.
  • Yes you can do it and yes it is easy. You will need a solder gun and a little solder(maybe?) and cannot be a complete idiot. First get a crapy game with a working battery. Then open it up, you will need the right bit. I call mine keys. I mark what side goes where. I don't know if this is necessary but...Then don't mess with the parts of the two clips that are acually connected to the battery,  only heat up the two sides of the clips that connect to the board (where the solder is!). The clips stay on the battery.(Do not remove these clips from the battery. You will never get them back on. I did this to Mario Tennis my first time.) Remove the battery with the clips still connected. Set it aside and repeat all of the above to the good game. (I say this so you can practice first with the crap game.) Do the old switcheroo. Put the good battery in the good game in the right spot (marks facing the right way) and reheat the solder. It can be done without adding any solder but if need be, add a very little solder, heat it up and vualla! Screw it back up and good as new? Test it and do what ever you want with the crap game. I'd say put it back together and trade it to Eb games but......
