What is the most ridiculous price you got for something that isn't worth jack squat?

I thought this may be an interesting topic. I was just looking on ebay and saw an aladdin for snes getting $10.50 plus $4 shipping and I'm thinking wtf? So, I was just curious if anyone ever sold anything that got a considerable amount more than it should. I'll start it off. About 2 years ago, I had breath of fire 2 loose on ebay and ended up with 2 guys having a bidding war. It fetched $72.

  • I had a Skippy Peanut Butter shirt I got at Goodwill for .25, and I sold it on ebay for 35 bucks plus shipping.

    ~~NGD
  • I wouldn't say Breath of Fire 2 is worth Jack Squat though. Are we talking about selling off worthless crap or just selling something well above market value? If we are talking about the latter, I sold Mega Man 1-6 cart only for $153 or so a few weeks back...
  • I sold a Colecovision power adaptor for $50. Also a Chiller cart with a torn label for $55. This was 2 or 3 years ago that I sold these.
  • I sold a Phillips CDi for $25 once, with a few games... suckers.

(I know that may be at or under the going rate, but honest to God that's the shittiest system I've ever had the headache of trying to play)
  • I have actually been looking for one of those lately. Seem to be very few on ebay and going for around $75.
  • Nistle, you aren't missing much image
  • Yea I have played one before. I agree they are not that great. But I just want it for those terrible Zelda games.
  • Well, I don't mean not necessarily worth jack but for some reason or another, it went for a considerable amount more. I'd say someone got ripped on Megaman 1-6...lol.
  • Watch the Nerd's video about the Zelda games and it might temper your enthusiasm. Also, considering that one of them goes for some kind of ridiculous price...think of all the NES stuff that could be had instead image
  • Yeah that's how I found out. AVGN's Zelda for the CDi just piss me off! image
  • I bought a old race track at a auction for 2.00 and sold it on ebay for 118.00

I've alternatively paid $5 and $20 for the two that have passed through my hands locally.

I'll keep an eye out if you want, though as heavy as those buggers are, shipping would be a nightmare.

  • ive had people offer me 50 bucks for a lunchbox I bought at Value Village for $1 but I didnt accept.
  • I sold one stupid Alex Rodriguez card on eBay for $900 one time... LMAO all the way! Pulled that bastard from a pack for $8.
  •  I have sold several games before for outrageous amounts. What comes to mind first is a copy of Burgertime that sold for $16. I also had a guy bid up a copy of Zelda 1 gold cart to over $30, but didn't pay. Also someone else bid up a copy of River City Ransom to over $30, I think he didn't pay. I also got like $35 for a copy of Double Dragon IV on SNES, but it was the only copy up for auction at the time, and it's kinda rare, but not worth that much. Let's see, besides video games, last Halloween I went around to thrift stores and bought up all the purple overcoats and trenchcoats I could find and sold them as a "Joker Coat" on ebay. I paid no more than $10 for them, and got over $80 for some. I also did a storage auction a few years back, paid $50 for a unit, and discovered a fancy Swiss clock inside that sold at auction for over $500. The guy who won was some really rich dick head, it took him three weeks to pay me. I also pulled out a bunch of fine china from that unit too, overall, I made over $1,000 on that lot.

A few other items of interest (these I just picked up cheap, they are worth money) are a copy of Bonk's Adventure on NES for like $3, also a copy of Snow Brothers bought in a huge lot with a bunch of other good games like Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Island, adventure island 1 2 3, Mario trilogy, system, accessories, and a bunch of other games for $60. I found these on the same day in different places, what are the odds?

As we speak, I am currently getting $7.50 on a copy of Zombie ate my Neighbors on SNES which basically has no label, there are almost two days left.
  • There was one time, a friend of mine and I went to the flea market to sell stuff... I didn't have prices on my items, just a "script" listing the prices for different items. There was this one copy of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in there, Greatest-Hits, scratched to pieces...I walked away from the booth to go shopping, I came back, it was gone. I asked him if he sold it, he said "Yeah, I got $5 for it." The price listed on my script? One whopping dollar image . Even GameStop doesn't sell them for that much here ($2.99, I think).

Funny thing about it...that was the third or fourth oversale he'd made that day. Because he was selling the games and I was giving him a percentage of what he sold, I decided I'd let him keep any extra money from overselling image . I think he made, like, $20 or so just from that o_O .

I must say...that is pure genius.

  • Wow, how many purple trench coats could you have possible found? Also, to Braveheart, I was a huge collector back in the day of cards, what A-Rod card was it?
  • I bought a sealed 2-pac action figure for $1 at the flea a few weeks back and tossed it on ebay and sold it for $175.00 BIN.

Got that crystalis clue book for free and sold it for $110

Got a broken laptop off craigslist for $10 and sold it on ebay for $150.00

Bought a hunting coat with hunting patches on it at the goodwill for $10 . Took the patches off and got $700.00 just for the patches.

I try and do it all the time lol.
  • Well, if we are talking about anything, I went to a yard sale and bought a truck bed full of legos with all manuals, some robotixs lego type set, and some pewter 1985 game figures like warhammer. I got all of that for $200. I sold the robotixs set for $80, I for $175 for the 36 pewter figures, I put together the Star Wars Millennium Falcon which ended up being 100% complete and got $100 for it, then sold the huge lego lot for $1625 and the buyer came from Kansas to pick them up. That is my best find to date.

Damn.  I don't even know what hunting patches are, or that they could be worth so much!!!  Tell me what to look for, I'm always interested in new stuff like this.

As for the Joker Coat thing, it wasn't a real stroke of genius since I saw someone do it first.
  • Sold a bunch of spare 1973 Charger parts on ebay a couple years ago, and some things went a lot higher than I thought they would. Mopar parts are insane. A cigarette lighter went for like $16 and a cracked up dash pad went for $125. I sold a pad with no cracks for over $500. I got 3 parts cars with my Charger and the parts I sold more than paid for everything, so I pretty much got my car for free.
  • funny you mention a car...back before I knew ebay, my folks had a 1989 Mercedes and the timing chain went out on it and it was going to be like $2000 just to fix that, so they went and sold it to a junk shop for $75. I can't complain because I win more than I lose but that and selling my entire He-Man collection for $50 takes the cake.
  • 1994 SP Red Holoview Diecut
  • Wow, you pulled that? I collected for probably 15 years and never pulled anything just truly amazing. Nothing over probably $300. I pulled a Babe Ruth Bat that was about $200 and I have pulled several autos of jeter, bonds, etc worth about $200 as well but nothing major. That is really sweet on that A-rod.

One of my best friends now makes a living buying and ripping apart old sport cars, mostly Camaros, (or is it spelled Camaroes?, mabye I just had a Dan Quail moment.)  There is some serious money in those, most of the ones he gets are from the 80s.  He buys them in various conditions, usually extremely shitty, but maganes to make up to $1,000 on them.
  • I bet...Hell, I could have sold the hood ornament for $75
  • That's nothing my friend pulled a Juan Gonzalez 1993 Topps Finest Refractor from a pack back when it was worth around $7,500
  • Dang! Those packs were so expensive. I did manage to by 2 packs back in the day. It sucked. No refractors and one pack had 2 Randy Johnson cards. So, you know I'm pissed when I drop $50 on a pack for 6 cards and 2 are the same. It didn't get much better in the second pack either.
  • Wow, you guys have made some sweet deals. My best was picking up a Dragonball 2-dvd set for $10 from a used store in my area and it sold for $90 on ebay.
