Want to make Repros

Hey guys just looking for some advice I would like to start making NES and SNES repros I Know I need a Programmer and a desoldinring and soldering iron aswell as donor catrs and various eproms and eprom eraser. I know how to split nes ROMs into .prog and .char and solder and have done repairs on  snes ans nes and I am very comfortable with soldering. I just start to get confused with the wiring and which eproms and donor carts to use for which games.

Thanks in advanced for all of the help Guys I really appericiate it.

  • Hey guys just an edit the games I would really like to make are earthbound Zero and Chronotrigger Crimson echoes and radical dreamers.
  • Good luck. I've been trying to teach myself very thing for a few months. But haven't got any closer. Might want to start with sega. Less rewiring.

These two sites gave me all the info I needed to make my translations and repros. Business has been picking up more and more on the translations. Not sure why but people seem to like the idea of a SFC cart they can play on their snes in English. I guess as long as people keep paying me money I will keep doing it. And please for the love of god get the correct chips that are a direct replacement. Dont do any of that crap where you solder a wire to every leg of the chip then to the board. It looks tackey, shows customers your only an amateur, and makes for a pain in the ass when it breaks (and it will) to repair. Also NO HOT GLUE SHOULD BE USED! Hot glue is the crutch of amateurs and drakon.
  • I can help you with the SNES side of things, I haven't done a lot of NES repros, but I've done a ton of SNES reproductions. You do need a programmer to write to chips, I use a GQ-4x for all of my programming needs and haven't had a problem with it yet. You want to start with an eprom reproduction since its easier but then move to a flash chip quickly since they don't require any rewiring and can hold 4MB games. Crimson Echoes should be the game you make after you get the hang of using 29f033 chips with the Tsop type III adapter since it requires 2 of those chips.

Donor carts are easier then you think. All you need to worry about is Lo Rom and Hi Rom for the most part. Start looking for Nfl/NHL 95 to 98 for Hi Rom and NBA 95 to 98 for Lo Rom. Both of those carts also have 64k of Sram and support flash chips.
  • Thanks for the advice everyone
  • doing it for profit or fun? That's the real question.
  • I've been making Genesis repros for a while now, but can't break into NES/SNES. It gets to be overwhelming. Does anyone know of any straight forward, simple, step by step tutorials? I pretty much need my hand held every step of the way. I've ruined so many boards...IT MUST STOP.

    halp pwease.
  • Get a better iron, get a spring desoldering pump and lube (or something better if you have cash to burn), get some flux, use these instructions:
