I want to get back into modding but need help on something

I usually enjoyed myself whenever I did a mod for a console or a game and came out successfully but for some reason I couldn't figure out why I couldn't have it looking neat/organized inside. It wasn't long that I realized that the wires I've been using were a little too thick.

So I like to know where can I buy thin wires, possibly in rolls as well as in different colors for cheap online? Every time I type something like wire roll on eBay. It doesn't show me what I'm looking for.

I know this site has pieces like s-video jacks, av jacks and more for great prices.

It's called a spool, not a roll by the way.

Ah thank you. Now as this as thin as they can get while having no issue on current flow? Asking because I remember using some seriously thin wire to the point where the current wasn't passing normally.

It's great for data, but use 22-24 gauge for power. 30 gauge kynar wire is standard for modchip installs etc.

So the 30 gauge can be used for mods like s-video, overclocking and region on a sega genesis model 1?

  • I would use something thicker for video/audio signals. Like I said, it's generally for data so those other mods it's fine for.
  • Ah ok but to fully understand this, since this the 1st time I even heard of the word 'gauge'.

The higher the # of a gauge cable, the thinner it is?

So 30 gauge cables are thinner than the 26 gauge cables?
  • I just buy a CAT-6 cable from a thrift store. Multiple colors and very cheap. Think it's either 26 or 28 guage.

Correct, the higher the number the thinner the wire.  I just use IDE cable. I like it because I can dig it out of the trash at work from broken computers. If I am lucky I will score rainbow IDE cable. Search for rainbow IDE cable, maybe you would like that.
