World of Nintendo Display Cabinet NES M99X* and NES M99L*
My story on how I got it, way back in February......
I couldn't be more happy picking up this display cabinet. I have always wanted one ever since I joined nintendoage. Which was about 4 years ago.
I never seen one of these that I can remember as a kid. That's not to say I never stood in front of one drooling over some sweet Nes games in the past but I simply don't remember.
So I found this badboy on kijiji back then for $800. I couldn't believe one actually popped up in my area. I was stoked but the $800 price tag was totally disheartening. The ad was only up for a few hours at this point, so I pounced. Determined, I contacted the seller and right off the bat I could tell after a few emails back and forth this was a cool dude. Not ignorant or arrogant like a lot of kijiji sellers with a cool item. He was very firm on his price and I could tell he liked it very much. He made the mistake of letting me know that he had to move and he had to get rid of the display case. So our first conversation ended with me saying I'm very interested and Ill keep in touch. My plan was to wait him out right until he had to move then swoop in with a low ball offer in the hopes he would have to take what he could get... Obviously this was a risky plan since literally at any minute some one else could jump in a buy it.
The next day at work I couldn't stop thinking about the cabinet. I have been in these situations before with collecting and I knew that even though it was expensive I would not regret it in the long run. As a collector I always... ALWAYS enjoy the item more then the money. An item like this I might not be able to find again locally and I know I can always just pick up a few more shifts/hours at work and make the money in the future. That day at work I did in fact get more hours and a foreman gig so I knew I was gonna buy this display case.
So I contacted the dude again that night in hopes of getting him to come down in prices. We went back and forth until we agreed at $650. This was his bottom dollar and at this point I just wanted it in my game room.
So I headed to the bank at about 9pm then to his place which was like 15 min away luckily and we did the deal. It was a pain in the ass to bring up his stairs and load into my truck. All the glass was still in it and that made it heavy and awkward. But we managed to load in -20 C (-4 F ) weather and I drove about 30kmph (18mph) the whole way home lol.
I managed to off load it into my garage myself at about 11pm. It was in great shape but had some minor wear and tare. I put in some new light bulbs and a new fixture panel/cover since the old one was cracked and busted up. I had to cut the new piece to fit.
I removed all the glass from it and got help for my dad to bring it into my basement. It wasn't bad to move with out the glass, still a little awkward but a lot lighter. I polished up all the glass and touched up the black peg board with a sharpie. The was a few nicks in it, which would show brown and it was driving me nuts. Then I deep cleaned all the glass tracks and the front plastic piece which probably had 30 years of filth and grim from little kid leaning on it. Then I polished the entire cabinet top to bottom
I put it all back together and here it is in all it's glory. I absolutely love it.
so the next thing i needed to do was make some shelves for it . i called around to get some custom glass cut but that would have costed me like $200. So I went to trust old Ikea and just bought some replacement glass for one of thier shelves for $5 a piece. I then used some pegboard hangers that I had. I painted them black and slipped a clear plasic tube over them to prevent the glass from moving. I was surprised with the result myself lol. Then all i had to do was reassemble my gameroom and BANG!!!

So afterwards I contacted the seller and I got a little more info about this cabinet,
-Originally it was in the Fort William Zellers store ( now a Target) in Thunder Bay Ontario . Zellers were all bought out by Target and they sold off all if their store fixtures. My local Zellers didn't have anything worth buying IMO at all.
-It was bought in the spring of 2012 for $350. The original asking price was $500 from Zellers. He had to wait 3 months to actually buy the case for some reason though. The guy then paid $200 for someone to transport it from Thunder Bay Ontario to Edmonton Alberta. Which was a 21 hour drive and just over 2000 km (1200miles)!!!
-Xbox 360 games were being sold in it at the time it was bought. No shelves were in it, just Xbox 360 game holders.
-No mods or changes were done to it by the guy who bought it. He made shelves for it and was about it. Simply just the peg board hangers with wood boards across them.
Some more history on this cabinet. So when I was cleaning the case up I noticed a sticker on the back. I figured it must be from the original manufacture. There was a phone number, address and fax number. I figured to try to look them up and see what I could find. As it turns out this company is still in business and they have a really nice webpage.
Also I have gotten a lot of questions about the dimensions of this cabinet. So I really crappily added some numbers to one of the pictures I took. I hope it helps. Feel free to bug me more if you need any more info.

Here's something else I found that was really cool. A gameboy color kiosk
I tried emailing and calling this company but never did get any more info on the World of Nintendo display case. Suppose I could try again.
Pretty interesting to see some of the company's other works - that GBC display is pretty amazing in a late '90s kinda way.

I may pm you with some questions about the base cabinet, if that's ok? In particular the grey logo work at the very bottom.
I'd be interested in knowing this information as well. I recently found a GBA cabinet that is very similar to the WoN cabinets.

Ask away
Before the mirrors I couldn't read the top of the games
After the light was just right
Not a huge deal overall but made a major difference in my frustration levels. Just thought I'd share.
I guess the first thing I did was put all my CIB's into 1 style of protective cases and then organize them by (random) publisher, then alphabetical. They went into the shelves whatever worked best. Pulling 1 set of games and relocating them in order to make things work.
The lights in the bottom half are on full brightness for the pictures sake. I usually have them turned right low or just enough to see the games. If a have them on high I cannot play my video games due to the extreme LED brightness, gives me a headache.
I constructed acrylic shelves for the bottom, then used color changing LED light strips to illuminate them. I think the effect worked out pretty good. All I have to say is that if you have master acrylic projects, my nintendo hat is off to you. There was a total learning curve and it is very unforgiving material. My work is good from far but far from good .
This pic shows the 4 rows of games. I will have to push back both shelves at some point again to make more room. Will have to make another row.... Looks like soon. That will be the only was to get more games in.
As for the top half, it is completely full! Cannot fit a single game more in there.
In the middle of the 2 glass shelves there was a small gap. I use a thin piece of plastic to bridge the gap. I didn't want to get custom glass cut so I just used $5 (shelf) replacement glass from Ikea.
There is a 3rd row which is hidden. I put mostly sealed and games I will never play (Sesame Street, Jeopardy, etc) or just boxes with the good games removed.
There you have it. The current form of my WON display cabinet.
