Really blown right now and need to vent....

I'm not going to post the link because it's frowned upon, but you can easily find it yourself I'm sure.

I've been actively searching for a Mint Little Samson for months and I thought I had just got one.  It was still in the original Cello and everything, Mint as can be, listed at $375 BIN OBO.  12 hours into the listing, I offer $275 and messaged the seller asking about his other items.  I had to wait 3 hours for a response, then we finally verbally agree on $325 for samson, and some other deals.

So I resubmit my $325 offer and the seller is not around.  I keep refreshing my email constantly because I knew the seller had to be online.  Then I finally get an email letting me know that I lost and someone clicked buy it now.

2:00 PM EST on a Monday afternoon, 14 hours into a 30 day auction.  I"m so unbelievably pissed right now... even more so because my bday is Saturday and the seller had even verbally agreed to get me my items just in time for it!!!

Whatever, another one will turn up I guess but wtf.  I guess I can feel a little better knowing that I got a bunch of good CIBs in the mail already en route, but I REALLY wanted this one.  Simply because I've heard so much about it being a good game...

Bah at least I know can carry my rage into the gym today on chest day.

  • And what really pisses me off (now that I've done my snooping) is that the winning buyer is a fool with their money. They have been buying up all of Saw_tooth homebums's Mint stuff at the absurdly high markups.

    She paid:

$65 shipped for Track & Field CIB

    $127 shipped for Solomon's Key

    $40 for Goonie's II

    And she's won a CIB Mint Sqoon ($320) and MINT BB2 ($350).

Hell, she would have paid $500+ for Samson judging by her track record.

  • If it was in such good shape, don't you think it would have been worth it to pay the extra $50 to BIN? You have to know you are not the only one watching/negoiating for the auctions.
  • thats a *#*#*# dude!

(hopefully she'll be along to bid on my stuff lol)

Nah, I don't pay asking price unless it's a steal.  I hardly consider $375 to be a steal, although I'd definitely say it was a good deal.

Plus if you had been following the BIN thread, you would have noticed the seller just sold a 200 OBO CIB Bonk for $180.

I'm not made of money and $50 goes a long ways for me.  I took a roll of the dice and should have won if the seller had any decent response time whatsoever.  She grabbed it a full 4 or 5 hours after I was in the process of negotiating.

  • You should have just clicked the BIN dude. You were taking a risk trying to save $50, which isn't always a bad idea, and it's usually good to be patient on getting a game, but I know you've wanted this game for a while and I think you should have just clicked the BIN
  • That 50 bucks may have made it seem like a shitty deal, but once the game is in hand, you're not even going to remember spending it. If you want a game that badly, and a nice one pops up, it's worth it to pull the trigger.
  • ^ Yeah kind of funny how I was talking about this exact game on AIM last night with you, lol. Then low and behold it pops up a few hours later.

If you guys really want to know some funny stuff, I offered $300, then $400 and then $450 to NESManiak for his copy. He wouldn't budge from $500 so I walked.

But then again I just bought like $500 worth of CIBs in the past week so that's why I was reluctant to pull the trigger. I don't like to overspend in a week, I like to take my shots image

Edit: (talked to Nick, not arse), arse snuck his post in before mine.
  • ehh... I had a higher offer than that submitted to her/him this morning.. only by a couple bucks though. Yeah, you should have just hit the BIN if you wanted it that bad.. I dont see anything wrong with it selling for asking price IMO. :\
  • $500 for Samson is overpriced. I haven't been paying attention to this game for a while but I think $375 is very reasonable for a mint copy with cello still on it. $50 goes a long way for me too but in terms of rare shit it's worth it to pay a premium (in my opinion) for mint condition samples, especially if you've been hunting for said game.
  • I didn't say there was anything wrong with it from his perspective. I'm not expecting to void a sold deal do a verbal agreement, that's absurd....

Had the seller had a decent response time I'd have been a thrifty genius...

  • For rarer games, it sometimes pays to pay a little extra, especially if it's mint. For something as rare as a CIB Little Samson, you were playing with fire waiting to see if your offer was accepted. On something like this, if you want it, buy it -- save your $50 on future offers. I can safely say that I also learned this lesson the hard way, just as you have. Tough break man, and g'luck on your next one.

Thanks for the wisdom Dain and taking the time to respond (I know you're a busy guy).  I'll just take this as a lesson and move on, but I don't have the "MINT" bug that many members on here do (aaronshea comes to mind image ).  I'd honestly be just as happy with a slightly beat up version in the $200-$250 range as I would with a MINT copy for $375.

And this could also be a blessing in disguise if I stumble across one in comparable shape for even cheaper sometime down the road image
  • ah man i feel your pain image happened to me with the SNES cabinet a while ago

the rage that boils up inside after such shitty deals.. vent it out on a boxingbag!
  • shoulda hit that BIN, but what you said in one of your earlier posts is correct... there will always be more samson's up for auction, and you may get lucky and find a BIN at like $250 or something! just bide your time! no need to do the Erik or MRN collecting style! image

Ha, thanks for the tip, but I'd rather just take it out on my woman instead image  Then kick her out around 8:30-9, play some Mario RPG until 11-12 and then get up and do it all over again tomorrow.
  • thats right, beat that woman, thats what she is there for!
  • Smack my bitch up...just like the turtle.

LOL, I actually think it's funny, since I bought most of my USA NES games 2-3 years ago now, other than the last few to finish it up.  SOOOOOOO what that means is yes I spent alot fast, but I spent WAYYY less than people are paying for sh*t now, and that of course includes Mr. Seth!  I saw that Little Samson for sale and thought Jesus $375 is way too much, because I only paid around $100 for my mint one so go figure.  Hell even games I got towards the end I paid way less for than today's rates... Bronty sold me my CIB matching serial numbered very nice condition Myriad for $1,200 again way less than they go for today.

To be totally honest NGD and I had a conversation just the other day about how much games are going for and it being hard to believe some of the prices and how they keep going up.  I like to think about things like MRN's offer of $12K for just an SE box and think about how much less I paid for my CIB minty SE, even though at the time people thought I was nuts for paying what I must have.  I can tell you Nick paid more for his CIB SE than I did as well.  That's just the nature of the RARE stuff.

  • ^^ For the record, 12k was a question, not an offer.
  • but, mr erik,, most of my stuff i got cheaper than you (seeing that i got it earlier than you)! all in all, it averages out! i wish i woulda been more hardcore into it back in the day. i didnt actually try to complete everything until last year at this time, when i joined NA. at that point, i think i still needed like 25 carts, 50 manuals, and 100 boxes??? something like that. i think i am down to about 3 carts (isolated warrior is on that list), 6 manuals, and 10 boxes??? or there-abouts! the ones i needed did cost a fair amount though!
  • Sorry. Hey at least ask the seller how to get ahold of the winner, so when she sells out in 6 months from being in dire straits from paying too much on cruddy boxed NES games, you can swoop in image
