Hey guys! Wanted to post an update to my adapter. When I designed it, I added functionality for Star Ocean but only got around to testing if Star Ocean would actually work on it recently.. Star Ocean uses weird mappers and required address shifting for the 3rd rom (a lot of hand wiring).. Drum roll please.....
It works! And I re-organized the rom data so that you don't have to do any address shifting.
I will have a write up in the instruction manual soon.
I have about 80 adapters remaining.
Hey Mark I have a few questions regarding making Star Ocean and figured I would ask in the post since maybe other people might want to read it. Anyway.....
What donor board do you need? LoRom or HiRom? The rom file shows it being LoRom.
My understanding from the PDF is that Rom 1 will go in the Rom 2 position, Rom2 will go in the Rom 1 position and Rom 3 will be stacked on Rom 2 with pin 13 jumpered to SO_Oen and pin 15 jumpered to A23. Is this accurate?
Finally will I need to get your modified file for the 3rd rom?
The ROM position would be ROM1 into Rom1, ROM2 into Rom2, ROM3 can be stacked on either ROM1 or Rom2.
The jumpering you mentioned is correct IF (and only IF) you have the re-arranged 3rd ROM (and I know of only 1 person who has it).
The Star Ocean ROMs you need are NOT the widely available ROMS you can find on google, ROM sites. If you try to use those, IT WILL NOT WORK.
I've promised the person who I got the ROMs from that I would not publicly distribute the ROMs and I won't. BUT If you happen to have a correct set, you can send me the set you have and I will verify if it's the correct set or not. If it is, then I'll send back the rearranged ROM. SORRY guys. The ROM set is out there but hard to find. I've promised that I wouldn't distribute them.
