what are some of the hardest to find nes accessories. The one ive been after forever is the gizmo. Pieter is the only one ive ever seen with one. the sighting scope packaged also is hard to find.
What about the Joycard Sansui SSS by Hudson? I've wanted one forever since it's basically a standard controller with a headphone jack and volume control (and obligatory turbo) but I haven't seen a single one in the wild in all my years.
I'm putting that one up for auction sometime soon, but the box isn't in the same condition as in the pic anymore (my parents' dogs were staying with me for a couple weeks about a year and a half ago and one of them got locked into the room with my collection and stepped on a couple of boxed accessories that I had just received in the mail...including the Gizmo. I haven't looked at it in a while, but it should still be in pretty good condition).
As for the hardest to find NES accessories, it's a tough question to answer. The problem is that some accessories had such small production runs, that we won't know that it's rare until we find it (i.e. once we figure out it exists ...take the Beeshu Hot Stuff for example...I've found an Atari version, but I've never seen a NES one even though it was advertised as being available for NES in mags back in the day). That especially goes for unlicensed joysticks that didn't have any magazine ads etc...there's quite a few that I've only come across once ever since I started with accessories. I think the whole Winner line-up of accessories should be noted as well, as they have some cool accessories, and they're all extremely hard to find, like the wireless UFO controller, Flight Yoke (AFAIK only Gundam has one in his collection), and the 190 and 300 joysticks. These were all advertised in mags back in the day but are nevertheless tough to find like the Gizmo.
For other accessories that may seem common, the packaging is insanely hard to find, especially for NES storage units or carrying cases. There are a couple of exceptions (i.e. Dynasound Organizer), but most of the time if you come across a boxed storage/carrying piece, I'd recommend to pick it up.

That one's not common, but it's also not that rare. The box is pretty tough to find, though, but there was a seller on eBay within the last 1-2 years selling a bunch of them new-in-box (that's where I picked mine up). I'm getting a spare box and manual in soon for my loose duplicate, so then I'll have a CIB copy up for sale/trade. If you're interested in it, let me know.

I don't own one, but I've seen one for sale on eBay before with the original box, one of the versions with the original toaster NES. IIRC, the box was plain white/greyish with red Racermate or Computrainer on the top of the box (I've tried to find a pic of it as I always save the pics, but I wasn't able to locate one).
The computrainer bundle you speak of (I assume) is the one I bought. It was a buy it now of, I believe, $600. It is semi plain but does state it is the NES version on it etc along with the contents. It is a top loader version and not the toaster version.
I found 3 of the hot stuff ones and didnt relize they were atari. i took one apart and a zinger apart to see if the cords were interchangable they werent.

Yeah, that's probably the one then. That was definitely a nice pickup, as I doubt we'll be seeing many boxed ones in the future.

Yeah, I just checked a company directory for Nintendo licensees, and they have a short description of the goods from each company, and by Beeshu the Hot Stuff was missing. My guess is that they never went through with making the Hot Stuff for NES. I'm gonna have to check some old mags again to see if the pic of the Hot Stuff in the ads has more than one button or not.
Btw, speaking of the Gizmo in this thread...Beeshu apparently released one for the Genesis as well (it's black instead of grey/white).
The Test Controller (The one with two standard NES controllers mounted on a black box is tough to find. It's the only test accessory for the NES or any other system for that matter.

That's true -- I have justabum to thank for the one in my collection (thanks again!!). Speaking of non-retail releases, there's also a promotional not-for-resale Triax Turbo Touch 360 that was apparently sent to certain individuals for some market testing or something. Same as the retail release AFAIK, but it came in a plain shipping box (with the same dimensions as the retail box if I'm not mistaken) and with a letter.
I agree that the Hands Free is a pretty damn rare accessory, but in the past two years I've seen at least 5-10 NIB ones (two in Europe and then a bunch of them from Japan-Games), which has had an impact on its value and rarity IMO. If the serial numbers on the boxes are any indication of production numbers, then chances are there's more than 3000 of them made. I guess we'll have to wait and see how many of these show up in the upcoming years Does anyone know if Japan-Games has more in stock?

What's a gizmo? Anyone have a pic?
My thoughts exactly.

There's a sight scope that attaches to the top of a regular zapper...pretty sure that is what they were speaking about.
