Selling entire SNES collection

Unfortunately, I have to downsize my game collection due to needing to pay a few bills and because I have literally RUN OUT OF ROOM. Between everything I own, I decided I will be parting with a few of my collections, starting with SNES. Fortunately I will not be downsizing my beloved NES set and DS collection but I am nixing SNES as well as a few others.

The list of titles is below and these are going to be listed later on eBay as a lot of 270 games, all cart only. Every game is clean and in good condition except about 5 with light label wear. There are no duplicates. I will be listing them all in one lot and not breaking things up. Pricecharting says the average SNES game is 15$, so 270 x 15 = 4000 dollars. I need a sweet spot to find that works for me and the buyer. I was thinking 3000 would be ideal. I was hoping for feedback on this one. Also considering auction. Just can't get a good price to work with because few people seem to sell such large collections. Well, here is the list:

  • You're really going to be eating into your profit if you try to dump all this in one lot on ebay, and you'd be really hard pressed to get somebody to drop 3 grand on that lot anyway (unless they're CIB)...
  • It's cliche but I'll chime in just the same. Because you're needing the money quickly and therefore need to move the carts as a lot, you'll definitely take a financial hit. If you can swing the time I'd recommend a Buy it Now over auction as it's so variable on the auction side (without reserve, obviously). I'd almost venture to say that $3k might be a bit high given the titles listed but that is just my opinion. I've personally never sold anything on this scale so I'm very much guessing.

That said, if you do find that you're willing to sell individual titles, please let me know as I may be interested.

Either way, wish you well in your collection sales!
  • Yeah dude, you'd be much better off selling in BIN lot's of flat rate boxes or something.

Even better would be to lot similar together or sell 1 at a time.

If you're selling based off that logic, you're asking wayyyy too much. The average SNES game is $15 if you include all the 3-digit titles, which I don't see any of in your collection. You'd be lucky to get $7/title for your lot (unless if these are CIB) which would put you in the ballpark of right below $2,000.

As others are saying, you would make more if you have the time to split them up. Otherwise you'll take a hit selling in one big lot.

This guy is spot on. There are a lot of sports stuff in your lot and none of the big hitters. The average cart price on vgpc is gonna include all the Mountain Bike Rally/Speed Racer, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Mega Man X3, EVO, Earthbound, Metal Warriors, etc. $3000 is idealistic as a lot

  • do a price per cart auction, like 270 x Z where Z is the highest bid.
  • You might actually be better off doing a FO thread here, and have people pick off parts that way, then ebay what's left.
  • You've got to ask yourself when moving a large lot like this "Can any potential buyer out there just buy the titles they need individually for a lower price?" Usually when I encounter large lots in the wild (if I don't absolutely have to have the titles), I tend to pitch 50-70% of what I think I can get out of it. Not price-charting value.

I don't know, you might get lucky and find a deep-pockets buyer who's really good working with volume, but in most cases there's gotta be some kind of discount. If you don't break up what you have, essentially you have to pay someone else to do it for you; to take on the "managing" of the collection.

Personally I wouldn't go after a collection like this for 3k, since I could drop $500-600 to get a collection with an Earthbound or a Suikoden 2, plus a slew of other titles in the $20-$40 each range. You can't really count the filler titles as $8 dollars a piece; stuff like that I'll have to portion out as 20 cartridge lots at $60-70 shipped in order to move it out the door.
  • Thanks for all the feedback all. I have listed the lot for my original idea of 3k, but I did do best offer as I do with almost all of my items on eBay. I figure that I'll give this a few days and see if I get any reasonable offers. I'd be happy with less than my asking but I won't blab the magic #. Let's just say I agree that yes, selling all of it in lots or separately is my best bet and it's something I'd do 5 years ago. But I am so busy these days that I simply don't have time to do it. I have a backlog of like 100+ items to list on eBay for months now that I can't get around to. So for me, time is money, and I am willing to take a small hit by doing one big lot. However, if I don't get any reasonable offers within X amount of time, then I'll throw it up on auction for 99 cents.

For the record, my N64 and Xbox 360 collections are up next. I am hoping to stop there because I hate ever selling from my collections but I had no choice.
  • PM Sent with thoughts. I don't want to affect your sale.

    Good luck!
  • Good luck with your sale man, I personally don't see $3000 worth of games here unless a good chunk of them are CIB. With that said I am not talking down your auction just giving my opinion.
  • I'm gonna agree with the others here, you won't be getting $3000 for this lot.
  • 3K will be a hard goal to meet.

Your best bet is to sell the pricey games individually, and lump the common $5-$15 titles in one big lot.
  • You may want to see where this ends up:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/251649037211

before you do the "auction starting at a penny" deal. That lot is about 2/3 the size of yours with similar game makeup.
  • Just looking through the list its roughly $11 a game. The only game over $40 is Skylblazer, Legend, and maybe Rex Ronan. I couldn't see getting anywhere near 2k let alone 3k. Will be interesting to see what it goes for at auction.
  • Good luck on this, man! Hope you get close to what you're asking, hate hearing about fellow collectors having to dump their collections when life steps in.
  • edit: looking at the wrong ebay link
