Depends on the game, but any green label version had a least a million black labels sold to get to that point. I'll assume that some green labels are less common, and may be worth more to some people.
I'd guess that like myself, most people that collect PS1 prefer the black label. Since they are all really common games their isn't much of a price difference but the black label is usually a litte more.
I personally sell off any green label I come across in favor of black label. Blacks do tend to go for 5-10 dollars higher, depending on the game. I haven't personally noticed any green label games with a noticeably higher cost. A really really hardcore collector probably would try to collect both.
It all depends on the game, there's no set % as far as I know. I collect both types (I got a green label shelf, and a black label one because it's an eyesore to mix them IMO) and some of the green label ones even hold the same value as the black ones or very close to the same value.
Overall, it's like what most people have said, the black spines are more preferred since they don't stick out, they're a little more difficult to find sometimes since they're the first run, and the discs usually have more color instead of a flat-out monochrome black and white print that the green ones do.
I know Black Label Final Fantasy has a much higher premium. PS1 stuff is cheap and under valued in my opinion.
ps1 is cheap? I dont think so.
Well the consoles are cheap atleast. Maybe I have better luck than most when finding cheap games.. I have a ton of Restored PS1s and boxes of games Im Lucky to get $20 for them.

I agree. Trust me, collecting for both black and green can be cheap, but that may be per disc and where you buy it, but going for a whole set... yeah prepare to dump a bunch of money into it. Right now I have a list of almost all PS1 games including Euro and Japanese, and it's on 25 sheets of paper in a small font vs. NES that's only on 4-5 sheets.
I've seen Black Label FF 7 games for around $30, and that's including the misprinted ones. But again, I'm a "out-in-the-wild" kind of buyer more than an Ebay one.

I never thought of it this way. I'm curious as to the production numbers of black vs green label. You would think some of the games that barely hit 1 million sales would have rarer green label variants.

lol, I guess people think that all black labels are misprints so they try to sell theirs at the same price as other sellers? Not all sellers on Ebay know their product I guess.
Oh, and I'm not quoting $30 as an average on the main sites like Ebay, Amazon, etc. but out in the wild, retro game stores, friends, etc. But you're right, average is around maybe $40-$50 and around $70+ for misprinted ones. I guess how I find them cheap is reverse that from Ebay, some sellers have the misprinted ones, but look of the average of the regular styled ones.

I know some people find sales figures for games, but I have no idea where to look for production numbers. Very interesting thought...
If a game is valuable, the black label will be worth more. More expensive Mega Man titles, Final Fantasy titles, Castlevania SOTN, stuff like that. For games that are in the $10-$20 range only, doesn't matter too much, but black label should still add a couple of bucks.
Those misprint FFVIIs and double Sephiroths are common as dirt. I've had at least a dozen black label FFVII cross through my hands and half of them were misprint or double Sephy. I'm starting to wonder if people are intentionally swapping back art to make more of the double Sephy ones.
I don't think there is a big enough difference in price to matter. The 20+ PSX games I bought off ebay the last year (most in the $40 to $80 range) were all black label and I paid the same low price as if they were green label.
It can matter, especially for specific games, but in general it does not. I think it's something like, they are worth the same, but no collector wants the green label so they skip over the green labels meaning they sell slower and possibly for less and the black labels may sell for more since more people look at them.
I collect both simply because in 5-10 years even green label games will go up in price. Look at Player's Choice SNES games, some of them are holding a good value.
And to whomever said PS1 games aren't under valued Final Fantasy Tactics sells for cheap now when it used to cost $60+.

Normally the masterpiece misprint goes for $40-45, while the double Sephiroth misprint recently went for $70.
Also some of the people putting the word 'misprint' in their sales aren't actually selling a misprint, which is odd and silly.

That's a pretty big assumption. I buy green labels when the price is right, but I guess I'm not a real collector

I agree, it was more of a broad notion. I for instance don't care at all, so whatever is cheap works for me!

You are right though, a lot of people will only buy Black Labels.
