Twin Peaks Appreciation Thread
Anyone else really into this show? I had never seen it prior to Netflix, but I had always heard of it growing up, being a fan of the X-Files and other "weird" shows.
This show is so many things! Happy, sad, angry, weird, crazy, emotional. All within the span of ten seconds. If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend at least trying the first season out. It's definitely different, and not for everyone.

The good news is that it's coming back! Yes, 25 freaking years later, they are going to continue the series on Showtime. So excited!!

Gives me goose bumps everytime!!

Anyone else ready to see Agent Cooper again, and maybe get some questions answered?

The fact HE will direct all of them definitely adds a plus to making new episodes, cause unfortunately, some of the episodes in the original series weren't as great due to lesser good direction. I'M totally pumped to hear this news, I haven,t even watched the new 'director's cut' of the movie that came out not so long ago, and now this, cool!
Also, this adds to the list of stuff we share in common Kevin, hehe

I remember this being on tv but never watched a single episode. Is it really worth a watch?
The obvious answer is yes, but take note that Twin Peaks is a very special kind of TV show, it is a TV show that is aware of being a TV show, if you get what I mean?
There's a lot of parody of the TV show genres of the 80-90's, so some people might watch it and think it is full of clichés, but the series is well aware of it and share a reflection on TV aesthetics.
It is partly surreal. Think of it that way : A Special agent of the FBI (expert in paranormal phenomenon) is investigating in a small US town near the border of Canada. This is not only surreal cause there's paranormal content, it is surreal in the sense that the basic situation of the drama is partly absurd.
It is a show that take its time, in perfect contrast with the usual pace of the common TV shows, especially of that time. So you need to appreciate a storyline that isn't going to twist you around 10 times in an episode, but the dramatic effect is way more efficient because of its economy.
Like everything that David Lynch touched, there's a very interesting thought on American dream and its negative side, American nightmare. 'The owls are not what they seem' like they say in the series, Twin Peaks is the ordinary small US town, with ordinary folks, but everyone has dark secrets, the forest, like in ancient folklore, is a metaphor of the dark side of society. The premise of the storyline is quite emblematic : the Prom queen of the high school, the girl that everybody loved, is found dead. Discovering the motives behind her murder will also reveal the nightmare behind the happy face of such a cheerful and common community.
Some episodes, particularly those directed by Lynch himself, are incredibly well shot for a TV show. At the time, the saying about Twin Peaks was something along 'Television too good for the Television'.
I'll give it a shot if it's still on netflixs
In all seriousness, this is the first I'm hearing of the new series and that really is exciting news.
Regardless of your opinion of the show itself, it is worth watching just for Sherilyn Fenn as Audrey Horne. She is a stone fox, and I get short of breath just thinking about her in that show.
For example:
And yes, Audrey and Shelly make the show extra special.
