    Thanks bro
  • Might as well tell you all about my missed NES opportunity. I decided to sleep in a few weeks back on my Saturday tag sale morning. I got to my first local TS at 8:30, the newspaper said it started at 8. I was excited to walk in and find a box of NES carts for $3 apiece. Nothing good though, so I asked the homeowner if he had any more, he replied- "what you see there is what's left, a guy just left with 20 games before you arrived." Well if that wasn't depressing enough, I was making small talk with the homeowner and asked if he remembered what games he already sold. He named off both Zeldas, Contra, mega man 4 and Zombie Nation. By the time he got to Zombie Nation I was kicking myself in the ass for the one day I decieded to sleep in. Ughh. Note to self- if you want to get good deals tag sailing don't go late!

It could have been a collector selling off his commons and told you he sold those others to drive you nuts...at least that's what I would tell myself!

  • Just thought I'd gripe about our local economy (CA Central Valley, Modesto) and like to hear about yours. We have two local retro shops (both owned by the same guy) and both have a good 20-50% over ebay prices. It drives up our craigslist to ebay or higher prices with lower quality. How is it in your area?
  • I just needed to vent this out for a second. I really hate when someone agrees to a sale, then gets all shady, and completely ends all communication. I had reached an agreement to buy about 30 SNES games from a guy Friday morning. After agreeing on a time and place Thursday night, he texts me Friday morning, saying he has a meeting. I say that's ok and we can meet in the afternoon. He says that's fine and will get back to me. He never does. His post online goes down and he won't respond to a single message. Ugh. Just man up and say you sold it to someone else. Don't bother lying to me then end communication... ok end rant
  • Just missed a several thousand dollar item for basically nothing because ebay's fucking login screen takes forever to load. My only consolation is that it'll probably get backdoored anyway.
  • Just found out that if someone posts their address and meeting time in a Facebook want add that I need to delete it instantly... Some lady just showed up afew minutes before me and picked all the good games from a collection... thankfully it was a PS1 collection, not NES. I'm still a bit pissed.
  • Not game related, I lost a deal on a Pioneer KURO 9G that needed a small repair for cheap! I had a time to meet up with the seller, they were in contact all the way up untill I called to tell them I am on my way and nothing.... NO responce no call back or email.

Bummer I really wanted this Plasma!
  • Weeping time..

Had a bad start to garage sailing this weekend. Basically, I search for garage sale ads all over. For community ones I just show up early and drive around as most do, but for individual ones I will e-mail them and try to set up a purchase/pick-up before the garage starts (because where I live, if you don't do that 600 other people will). Occasionally you'll get a person/couple who will say no early birds and that it will only be sold at the garage sale. So a garage sale ad that came up, that involved 8 consoles (genesis(x2)/snes/nes/n64/ps1/gc/ps2) and some games/controllers. The only thing you could see in the picture were the consoles, and when I e-mailed he didn't want to give any specifics about the game titles and assured me it would not be sold before the sale started. Now if this were a year or so ago I would've left it at that and just showed up, but after being screwed over a few times I've learned my lesson about doing these pre-garage sale things. I asked if there was to just assure that I could my name on them if I showed up first or something and he told me that as long as I show up right when he opens his garage that I would be able to look at them first. This morning I go there and like any other garage sale involving games there's about 7 or so cars that show up and wait behind me. He opens his garage and I start walking up only for some old man in business suit to run by me screaming at the guy in the garage that he'd buy all the games. I was slightly surprised, but for anyone who read my crazy stories about game collecting in Tampa, this really isn't new. I walk up and start looking, but the guy insisted he bought everything and so I asked the seller to verify and he replied with, "Yeah sorry, I knew I said you could look at em, but they're sold." I guess he wasn't lying I did get to look! I suppose the good news is the only rare game I 'could' see was Pokemon Stadium 2 on the n64. The rest were a bunch of commons for most systems, but I didn't get to look that much before getting turned away. Just leaves a sour taste in my mouth when stuff like this happens. Ah well!

    End weeping
  • Found a game store off the beaten path today, hundreds of NES games, but no prices on the carts. When I asked about prices, they told me to tell them what I want and they will look up the prices online... I just turn around and waled out the door.

This. Don't you love how it's never, "Oh, I had a few old games, Duck Hunt, Mario, oh, and a loose controller too." It's always, "Oh yeah the Nintendo games! I had 500 copies of Stadium Events that you just missed, and I sold them all for ten cents!" I swear half of what people claim "just sold" is completely made up.

  • This is an old story, but I just remembered it. about 4 years ago I went into a local store and saw that they had put a bunch of N64 games on the shelf with black permanent marker rectangles on the labels. I asked why there were so many games with that particular marking. The owner told me that the regional manager for gamestop had stopped in and traded in a bunch of games that he had collected over his time as regional manager. Apparently this included most of the Not For Resale N64 games from the Fort Wayne stores... The store owner marked out all the the NFR boxes with sharpie to make them "Legal to sell"

Yea, I know what you mean. I didn't mention the other crap titles he was listing off that got sold but there were a few. All my ears were hearing were the rarer ones.

Nothing some rub alch and some other components couldnt have rubbed off

  • Yeah, but this was back when NFR's werent as popular. I said 4 years ago in the post, but now that I think about it, I was still at my parents, and that had to be 7 years ago.  NFR's werent worth much back then. It was a niche thing to collect them. once people started showing them off online people started wanting them. When I saw them I was thinking of the poor people that he was ripping off by selling half a game to them. I thought about buying them for my collection(I've always thought NFR's were cool) but didnt think they would be worth the price of a full game.
  • Walked up at the local flea market just as a guy bought a stack of SNES games for $10. I didn't get to see all of them, but I did see Run Saber in that stack.

gotta hate that! I know the feeling man

  • Stopped at a consignment shop today and asked if they had any Nintendo games. Said they had a box upstairs they didn't know what to do with. Brings it down and there is probably 20-25 games (nothing super rare but games like Mario 3, Renegade, Battletoads). Asked what they wanted and he said they had to research it. I should have just made an offer but I didn't. I left my number and he called back later in the day wanting Ebay prices for them. Also tried to tell me Renegade was selling online for $400.

Are you saying that people from indiana are amatures when pricing on ebay? probably the other collector in my town. He was telling me about how his ebay auctions sell instanly. I looked at his sold items, and he really noobed it up selling them. I told him to hit me up before he lists again. lol.
  • nah amateur hour as in they check ebay, see a sealed copy for $200 then want that for some $20 game.

I was negotiating trying to get this H.Moon snes off this kid and some drunk dude came in the chat(voice chat) and started reading off this top 15-20 rares snes games, and saw batman forever rare euro press box edition for like $500 and he thought it was any batman forever game.

then tried to say final fantasy 2 cart only was worth $150 AND THAT HE WOULD PAY THAT MUCH....

dude had some extreme issues though and he disappeared from our circle.

Ahhhh, the old "I have a meeting" trick. That's happened to me so many times. While it could be true every time I think of it just being somebody who barely has a job at a mcdonalds and had somebody come in and back door me. It sucks but thems is the breaks.
  • I thought I had found the haul of the century. Close to 1400 SNES cartridges. A ton of great titles. The shipper told me to expect 4 giant boxes. The boxes made it out of his hometown and into mine. The packages said out for delivery on Friday, October 17th. I waited until 10 after 11:00, and still nothing. After I've been at work for a couple of hours, I re-checked tracking. Now it says that they left a notice at 11:06, because nobody was there. So that was a little frustrating but the tracking also says that I can pick them up at the post office after the carrier comes back. So I called the post office, after 4:15. They told me that they will have to call me on Saturday at 8:30, because they don't know where the packages are. So today is Saturday. I received no phone call. I called them at 9:30. The gentleman working says 'my boss left, he wanted me to tell you that he doesn't know where your packages are and he doesn't know what to tell you." I'll check again on Monday. I don't know what to do. I get an unbelievable deal, and something crazy like this happens. It makes me want to hang it up.

Are you sure the packages existed in the first place?

I have tracking numbers. They have been scanned. I guess that is all. I can't personaly confirm that my post office actually got any packages if that's what you mean. The tracking states that they attempted delivery and left a notice.
  • I actually had something eerily similar happen to me, where it was sent in 3 boxes, one of the boxes had "ripped open" in the post office and they pilfered all the early volumes of the nintendo power magazines. I did get 2 of the 3 boxes but only a few nintendo power mags and all the earlier ones were "lost." I was told the exact same thing though that the packages had been misplaced, I hope this doesn't happen to you but by the sounds of it, its not looking good at all. It took an extra week for the packages to arrive and everything else was accounted for.
