What system to buy 7 year old son??
Hey
Christmas is coming and my son really wants "lego" game and "Mario Kart", however I have read the WII U is not doing well and the plan is to phase it out sooner than later.
What system do you guys suggest? I did not think the ps4 or xbox was suitable for my son...... maybe a nintendo ds? I am not sure.. as I am totally retro gamer
thanks
Jim

Nintendo DS Lite would be good because of battery life and being able to play both DS and GBA games, for sure. But personally, I'd recommend a GBA SP.
I am leaning to the wii u, but the nintendo ds is cheaper.. as for the 2 vs 3 does the three not sound better?? it has larger screen and does 2 and 3d games? GBA SP? is that not older? He goes to school and his buddies talk about the newest games i.e.) lego city, marvel super hero games, mario kart 100 etc..... I want to be sure he gets to buy the new ones so he does not feel left out....... I am worried that the wii u is not doing as well as they had hoped and it will phase it out... I have read rumours of such.
Wii U is doing just fine. It just had a rough start. I say get him whatever system he'd enjoy, rather than worrying about the hottest thing. He's 7, after all.
My son is 6 and he started out on the Wii and I was hesitant getting a Wii U but ended up buying one and I never regretted it. He plays most of his older Wii games on it and he really liked SM3DW I haven't let him loose with the tablet yet as he still has problems dropping wiimotes from time to time but seems only a few games require it most will play with other controllers which was a plus.
Other than a nds or 3ds a wii u would be a excellent choice in my opinion.
Even if they stopped making games for the WiiU today, there's a big enough library out now to justify the purchase for a 7 year old.
I am also snagging a WiiU this Christmas. If there's no good Black Friday deals, I'll snag the refurb deal from Nintendo.com ($200 for a 32GB deluxe with Nintendo Land)
Either Nintendo system would be fine if you like Retro games as Nintendo has it's own brand on emulating past titles known as the Virtual Console. There's more available to choose on the Wii U than the 3DS.
I would get the Wii U if you think you would enjoy playing the games yourself or playing with your son.
However it does seem your son is part of a social group of gamers at his school. Maybe he would like the 2/3DS just so he can play with the other kids. The 2DS is cheap and a good choice but he may be interested in the 3D capabilities.
Seriously though, WiiU is pretty great. Lots of Lego and Mario games, and the library is ever-growing.
For me I play my original nes, and sega consoles. I am leaning towards the wii u, but never thought of a 2ds.. now I am torn. What is the cost difference for games? he says he likes the idea of the portable one......

Just make a poll
Wii U is more a family console than the 2DS is + you can play retro titles on the U.
NES remix physical copy is coming in 1 month I think.

ok so whats the benefit of 3 ds? over 2 ds?
2ds doesn't fold up, and so its a bit less portable overall. the 3ds XL has a very nice larger screen(s).
2ds also lacks the 3d fucntionality, but its more a gimic than anything else, and will probably be best left off entirely, which will also save battery.
Also the lego- mario games are in the library - he'll dig it
2ds:
Plays DS/3DS games
about $100
play on the go
3ds and Xl
Plays DS/3DS games
can play in 3D (though Nintendo recommends kids be over 7)
more portable (doesn't have the screens exposed)
$50-100 more than the 2ds
- New games are $30-40 (this goes for both of them)
Wii U
most bundles come with 2 games for $300
you can play with him (this to me would be the biggest reason to go Wii U cause then you can play with your son)
can play games on the gamepad while you watch something else on the tv
can play all Wii U and Wii games
its something you'll enjoy as well.
Those are my thoughts. You also have to consider that the 2ds/3ds has Pokemon. I'd still go with a Wii U just for the being able to play with him factor.

Yeah, the 2DS is geared toward a young crowd. It shouldn't break as easily and lacks 3D which can be troublesome on younger eyes. Other than that, it plays all the same games. And personally, I think 3DS games look better on the smaller screens.
