What are the best tools besides q-tips for getting deep down in there and thoroughly clean cartridge slots? I've got a few systems that really need it.
The simplest possible way to clean a cart slot is to use a game cartridge as the scrubbing tool. First, you gotta make sure your game is really clean, then you wet the cart edge in alcohol, scrub the cart slot, then wipe off the cart edge with something to get the dirt off. You repeat this until the cart comes out clean.
The one nice advantage here is not getting towels or shit caught in the cart slot.
this might sound crazy but another very efficient way to clean your pin if its removable, is white vinegar and alot of salt. mix those together and dip your pin in use a tooth brush. after a few moments wash it off in hot soapy water and dry with a hair dryer till completely dry.
i only recommend this if you cant get it to work any other way.
other wise just do the credit card trick or go online and buy a universal cleaning kit.
Remove it and toothbrush and alcohol. Good 99% of the time. I had a pin one time that was completely covered in corrosion and green nastiness. Soaked it on Coca Cola for about an hour, toothbrushed it, alcoholed it, looks shiny new.
This is going to sound insane and I think I am insane for trying it but I found a video about boiling the 72 pin connector for a NES and then bending the pins back. I sucked it up and gave it a shot on a very bad 72 pin and it worked amazingly. Google the video and follow the directions the only thing I did different was I used a hair dryer to speed up the drying process. It works so well that I don't even have to push the games down in the system.
I used an alcohol-soaked toothbrush on my N64 and now when a game is inserted it makes a bristly sound. Function seems to be hit or miss like before with not much noticable change. Did I do something wrong?
