Hooking up a Nintendo via Antenna

OP: So I have an old "potable" Singer tv and wanted to hook up an NES to that beeiitch lol The Atari hooks up no problem but I'm kinda at a loss as to how to go about doing the NES. Every search I find involves a HDTV or something of the sort.

So I figured I'd see if anyone else has any leads. I'd love to see links to cables and stuff to make it work too

UPDATED:

Got the connector in the link (http://www.amazon.com/300-Ohm-UHF-Matching-Transformer/dp/B0002ZPIOG) in the mail and then took off the Atari switch box I had on the old girl (Singer).

I twisted the Nintendo RF box onto the pigtail connector and tightened the screws.

After which I turned on the tv and adjusted the channel tuning for around 30 minutes until I finally go this:

There ya have it boys and girls. An old Singer portable Television in beat mode. I believe the TV was made in the late 50s or ealy 60s. I'll have to dig in the attic to find the instructions it came with to be sure, but its old as fug.

  • Talking about the 2 screws that you attached the bunny ears to? If so, old Action Sets actually came with the antenna adapter that you screwed onto it then attached the RF switch to that.

Im pretty sure I bought that one already. The Nintendo doesnt take to it for some reason. Unless I need something other than a standard RF cable connecting the NES to that connection in the link

Edit: And if I buy this then what? What cables go from NES to tv once this is in place?

Yeah I have like 100 of those. I couldve sworn the uhf unit I had was the same. Ill have to check. Does anyone actually have this set up or are yins just going from memory?

Also, yes I grew up under power line..
  • It should work. I have not hooked anything up like that since the 80s though.  Some old consoles used to come with those so you could hook it up either way.
  • Well the one I have now (or ordered early this years) fits the 2600 RF cable. I'll go ahead and order this guy. Hows the Nintendo handle black and white?

Edited; I went ahead and order the cables in the link. I'll update the thread when they come in. This is a science experiment now
  • Updated OP w the results!
  • Wow - now that's an old school TV! Way to play NES old school. Singer brand of all TV's haha. I was going to mention that I have an extra Nintendo antenna adaptor I'd give ya for free but looks like you're covered
  • Ah man! You're too kind Yeah I never saw a Singer TV ever and when I came across it the lady wanted $10. As I was being talked out of buying "another TV" by the girl I was dating at the time and the old lady came up and said "If you want it you can have it" and the rest is history!

Its portable but somehow weights 35lbs..
  • Yup, I know those. Both my '83 and my '85 Zeniths need them to work with any kind of peripheral, NES, Genesis, VCR, etc. NES doesn't sound right on either of them though. Never did find out what the other set of screws went to.

Anyway, if you actually want to play games on it, you'll quickly notice that the lack of color makes certain games more challenging.

You can ditch the RF switch entirely if you get one of these and and an RCA cable.
