Japanese PS2 Slim - how to test it without games?

I have a Japanese PS2 Slim I am looking to sell, but I don't have any games to test it with (well I do have Final Fantasy X-2, but it is sealed and I'd rather not open it just for that). I did pop some soundtracks in the system and it played them just fine though. I figured if it could read some kind of disc then the laser should be fine. Do I need to try out games or is the CD testing method enough? I did see an eBay auction where the seller noted that he used CDs/DVDs to test it out and not games, but I wanted to make sure this was a legitimate enough way of testing the system. I would make sure it reads games,if you search ebay in the US for import ps2 you can find jpn games for cheap,buy one and test it out then include it when you decide to sell it.
