super nintendo wont play games

well i bought my first super nintendo that wont play games.....i have ordered the bits to take it apart and see what may be the problem....i have seen the capacitor may of leaked from other sites but do not know all of the reasons behind this problem.....i seem to have a good av cord since it works with everything else i own....is it possible to bend the contacts like the nes's or that normally isnt an issue with these? i did the credit card trick in the slot but didnt seem to help.....

  • Does the red light come on? Could be a power issue.
  • Could be a dumb question, but did you clean the contacts on the games and cart slot?
  • super nintendos seem to break easier than original nintendos ... and by break easier ... i mean break / unfixable ... SNES usually don't have as much PIN issues ... if it gets power, then probably one of the main chips has gone bad ... that has been my experience at least
  • yeah i cleaned the games and the cart slot but i could only use compressed air and a credit card to stick into the flap that opens for the games...maybe tomorrow when i get my bits and take it apart i can clean better.....power comes on just no audio or video.....hopefully its not fried but doesnt seem good so guess ill learn how to open up a snes and do some trouble shooting.....
  • when i turn the power on i do hear like a connection noise to the tv but other than that nothing.....i tried to clean the cartridge slot but no luck so far!
  • so after cleaning it if i position the cart just right i can get the no signal to come off of the tv.......seems as if the cart slot is the culprit....the games also seem to slide in pretty easy as if the pins are worn out.....ive tried to figure out how to bend the pins but have no luck.....anybody ever bent the pins back on a snes?
  • You shouldn't have to bend the pins on a SNES, because there's nothing that causes the pins to bend when you insert a game, unlike the front loading NES. Theoretically, the only way the pins could be bent is if someone kept taking the carts out at an angle instead of ejecting. What you could do is boil the pin connector in distilled water if you really think the pin connector is at fault.
