Sega Genesis Issues

I have a model 2 Sega Genesis, so the power will turn on and it stays on if you don't touch the system but I get no video or sound. I had to buy a cheap av modded cord because my main gaming tv doesn't have a coaxial but I did try with a regular rf cord hook up and neither way has given me picture. The system is also very touchy sometimes too in the fact that it will sometimes flicker on and off with power.

Is it worth trying to fix or just replace it because it's so cheap?

I would just get a new one dude. They are a dime a dozen around here. I might even have an extra for you

    Is it the power supply?

My knowledge of Sega stuff is very limited.

  • If the power flickers on/off, the issue might be a cold solder joint on the console's power socket. If you're handy with a soldering iron, its an easy fix to replace the solder on the three metal prongs that connect the socket to the console.

But like MrWunderful said Model 2 consoles are dirt cheap, so don't bother with the above if you don't already have the tools handy.
  • I was meaning the power adapter, are you using a first party or a junky 3rd one.

But like the leh lurv is saying, check out the power socket. While those Model 2 are dirt cheap, it doesn't hurt repairing it as something else could happen to the next model 2. Those consoles are getting old and some maintenance can help them live longer.
