Repair on a Game and Watch game

I just got a Game and Watch game in a trade, Parachute to be more specific, and the controls aren't working right. Everything else works fine, but the controls don't respond correctly. If I press right nothing happens. If I press left, it goes right. Also, when I put batteries in it, it seems that the right button is stuck because the time goes all the way up. I've cleaned the contacts but it did not change anything. I inspected the board and I've seen no anomaly on it. I just don't know what to do and there is almost no information on internet about repairing Game and Watch games.

Your issue is a new one. I have not encountered that.

Have you tried powering this on while its disassembled / front plate removed?

That would be my attempt. Maybe the front faceplate or shell is causing improper pressure on the silicon button pads.
  • try it with out the shell on like retrofixes said the shell might be the obstruction
  • I've found the solution. My guess was that the right button was always pressed. I tried to find a defect on the pcb where the power was always connected to the right button control but I found nothing. The solution was ... clean the right button contacts harder ! I guess something very small was there and was making contact permanently. Now everything is working perfectly !
