Looking for some advice on a new Notebook PC
I don't need a beast of a laptop. I'd be using mostly Adobe Photoshop CS4, audio editing tools, and I plan on doing some video editing as well. I'm trying to keep my budget between $500 and $800.
Here are some basics I am looking for:
1. A sharp and accurate LED screen. 15" would be fine, I'm thinking at least 1680x1050 since this is what I have been using since 2006. Good viewing angles a plus. 1920x1080 might be the way to go?
2. Intel CPU (I5 or I7) seems like the way to go.
3. 8 to 16GB of RAM. 1GB Hdd.
4. No optical drive is necessary. I can rip ISO's with my desktop and mount them with Daemon Tools if need be.
5. Weight. 6lbs or lower (4lbs or less ideal). I have severe back problems so I will be using it mostly while laying in bed with it on my chest. My current 7lb laptop tends to feel like 50lbs after a few hours.
6. I'd like an Nvidia or ATI gfx chip, but it doesn't need to be a powerhouse. Intel HD graphics might do the trick.
I just want to make sure video editing doesn't get bogged down too much by it.
As far as games I do must of that on consoles, but if it can play games from a few years ago that would be OK too.
7. Backlit keys on the keyboard also a plus.
Any advice or links to sales meeting these goals would be appreciated.
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

Asus yes, Lenovo does have some lower end stuff that I wouldn't touch.

Thanks, but those are all $1000+ notebooks.
I'm trying to keep my budget between $500 and $800.
I really liked my last Dell, an Inspiron e1505 (Core2 Duo, 15.6" 1050x1680, Radeon gfx). I paid $799 in 2006 and it's been perfect until just recently.
If it wasn't for the failing LCD display I'd keep on using it. The display is better than most new screens I see in that price range (as far as resolution and viewing angle are concerned anyway).
I was looking at this as a possible purchase:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NJNE5ZG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
It has many of the same features as those picks above (Intel i7 CPU, 16GB DDR2 RAM, 15" 1920x1080 LED display, 1TB hdd), and is $200+ cheaper.
Looking through their current sales, I would recommend the Y50. It is currently on sale for $950. If it is too much, then you could also look at the Y40, but then you lose the back lit keyboard, the CPU is a lower model, and you get a 14" screen instead of a 15.6". The Y40 is on sale for $700.

ok. but for video editing you must have a decent computer. 500 dollars will only get you an above average computer. so dont hold back imo.

I would recommend Lenovo. My first laptop I got back in 2008 was a Lenovo and it is still working without issue up to this day. My current laptop is also a Lenovo which I have had for close to two years now and havn't had any problems with this one either. Their low end stuff isn't very well made but the mid-high range products are very well made.

Thanks. I was actually about to close the deal on a Lenovo, but it seems the quality on the screens they are using now has gone way down. The color accuracy is off on the yellow colors.
I've noticed this with a Samsung LED 1080p display I bought a couple of years ago. All yellows looked horrible on it and no amount of adjusting would help it. It was driving me insane so I returned it (and ate a 15% restocking fee), but it was worth it to be rid of it. I really don't want to go through anything like that again.
Here is some people talking about the Lenovo display issues:

I was looking at this one in particular.
Lenovo Z50 Laptop - 59436278 - Black: Doorbuster
Even the 4 star reviews are very critical of the display quality and since I am doing a lot of work with images and Photoshop, the screen is very important.
Another I am looking into is the
HP ENVY - 15t Laptop
Black Friday Deal. HP has the HP ENVY 15t Intel Core i7-4710HQ Quad-Core HASWELL 15.6" Notebook Computer for a low $599.99 Free Shipping. Tax in most. You can upgrade to a 1080p screen for only $50.
4.81lbs; 15.6" 1366x768 LED; Intel Core i7-4710HQ 2.5GHz (Turbo Boost to 3.5GHz) Quad-Core HASWELL; 8GB RAM; 1TB HDD; 802.11n; Windows 8.1; webcam; 6-cell battery; 1yr warranty
I'm not very familair with HP though. I know Gateway, Dell, Acer, Toshiba.
