All of your suggestions worked, and I made it to Act IV.
The funny thing is, I made that final jump on 3-2 first try after reading your post. The boss gave me a bit of trouble for three or so attempts, but then it was a sealed deal. Now comes Act IV...
I'm now wizzing through the first several levels (I can't believe how good I've gotten at this game, lol), and I've made it to "Malth" at the end of level 5 I believe.
I have no idea what I'm doing against him; any tips?
i played that game so much i know every level like the back of my hand, my recent memory of that game was getting to the final boss for the first time ever and being so nervous i blew it, i still havent got to the final boss again, the second final boss always kills me and i turn off my nes, ninja gaiden is my favorite nes game

Any tips on how to defeat Malth at the end of level 5? I have no idea how I'm supposed to dodge his lightning attack
I completely agree with you though; this game is becoming one of my favorites on the NES. I never played it much when I was younger (for obvious reasons), but I'm getting so good with the overall control and gameplay now that it's actually fun
You don't even need to dodge his attacks, your health replenishes fully at that point, just immediately start hacking him as soon as the cutscene ends. As long as you start hitting him right away, he should only be able to hit you 3 times with the lightning attack before you've fully killed him if you just keep slashing away.

No problem, I'm enjoying going through this game myself. Got to the final boss for the first time ever, beat the 1st battle in one try, and then died at the 2nd battle. It is true what they say, you are sent all the way back from 6-4 to 6-1. The good thing though is that when you finally make it back to 6-4, if you beat the 1st fight, you are instantly thrown into the 2nd fight. This means that you can actually fight the final boss with a powerup which is helpful, but your health doesn't regenerate like it does the first time so it kind of sucks. I'm actually starting to get really good at 6-2 though. This game really is all just about memorization and NOT hesitating. Getting to the enemies and killing them before they pull off any attack is huge. There are many jumps where you need to land right at the edge and slash the enemy right away before they attack
The so called impossible jump in 6-2 is actually extremely easy. I've done it 3 times this morning.
If you stand in the correct spot, the white spector dude on the ground backs up far enough that he disappears and does not regenerate. You don't need a ranged weapon at all. Ryu is standing way too far forward in this .gif.
Once he is gone, jump, slash the bird that appears in midair, and land on the platform where the spector was. Simple as that.
The big key to this area is never looking back.
Edit: Since I moved my NES back to the CRT I'm doing much better at this game. It's mainly the only NES game I've been playing the last two weeks (maybe 6 or 7 times I've sat down and tried to play through this) and I dare say I'm starting to become pretty damn good at it, 6-2 is hard but it's not THAT bad, they actually place some powerups exactly where you need them, and it is important to remember you can hit the throwing stars the men in jetpaks throw at you with your sword. Died at the final boss again but now just got back to 6-3 without a problem. 6-3 is actually pretty easy, I just can't figure out how to beat the 2nd boss battle in 6-4. I'm definitely still not skilled enough to reach 6-5.

looks like you found the secret to 6-2, without knowing that glitch though its almost impossible, i usually restart the game when i die at the last boss, i dont think its worth it to be go in there with diminished health the next time, it sucks you cant just get a crack at him right awvay again, its one of the most brutal things ever in gaming

yea i dont know any other strategy other than just getting in there and hitting him as fast and as many times as you can, i never died on him with using that method
I'm going to give this another go after lunch; I'll report my experience(s) shortly after.
UPDATE: So I've just completed Act V and defeated Malth with the suggested strategy. It worked first time! Thank you for all of your help, my NA brothers
The 6-4 boss, Jaquio is a beast for sure. His fireball attack patterns are some of the toughest I've ever encountered for whatever reason. I had to practice on him using an emulator with save state for a while, since you die so quickly and have barely any time to come up with a strategy. That's what makes it so tough. Then when I would reach him again, I couldn't think straight and would get wasted again. You just gotta take your time with him. Chip away at him when you can but don't get too risky. It's easy to get caught up in the ebb and flow of his fireball pattern and loose your concentration. The final demon boss is not too bad, but it is easy to die there as well. I just keep swinging at him and avoiding the falling projectiles.
That's what I've gathered from others, as well. The true difficulty lies in knowing there is no rest, and you start at 6-1 if you die. I'm still at the point where I'm developing an effective strategy just to get myself to the final bosses with a decent amount of health
The thing I like most about ninja gaiden is that no matter how good you are at the game, it's still a challenge.
Btw, you only go back to 6-1 if you die at any point in the final boss run I spent many of days continuing on 6-2 and 6-3 before I could beat the final bosses without continuing haha. This is one of those games that when you beat it, you gently put down the controller, and idle watch as your anxiety settles and that calming feeling flows through your body, with that nice relief and satisfaction of accomplishment.
Your health replenishes the first time you meet the boss, and even if you are going through it a 2nd time, there is a potion pretty close to the end of 6-3. Being reset to 6-1 is definitely a glitch, when you reach the boss the 2nd time you will see a bunch of glitchy code right before you enter the boss battle, and your health is not replenished like it is supposed to be. Tecmo definitely didn't intend for this to happen, but they must have seen it in testing you have to think, and they probably just laughed to themselves evily and said to keep it.
I've also heard the spin attack does a ton of damage on the boss, but I've never managed to reach him with that powerup.

The spin attack destroys every boss in the game, but it takes a special skill to be able to make it through a level with that power up and not using your magic to be able to use it. Definitely adds a whole new layer of difficulty IMO lol
Ninja Gaiden.... The most fun and most difficult game all in one.
Some games were so hard that after 20 minutes you HAD to turn them off, or stop playing.... Ninja Gaiden was one I always went back to despite how terrible it treated me. I died quickly, learned slowly and fell of SO MANY EDGES.
But no matter how frustrating it was to get the crap kicked out of you and fall off edges because you got hit ONCE I always wanted to play this game. It was so fun that getting killed a million times didn't matter.
The incredible music is something I'll always remember, too. Having just recently acquired Ninja Gaiden 3 and expereincing that, it's just added to how much I love the series.

That's the same way I feel, no matter how hard and punishing it is, they seemed to still make it a fun and great game you'd wanna play al the time
Talk about stuff gameplay, sounds like ghosts and goblins lol I hope u beat the game too, all this talk is gonna make me play this game tomorrow, I've been trying to beat battletoads lately so I'm concentrating in that, but damn I need some ninja gaiden in my life
I've reached that awkward stage where I'm suddenly sucking horribly on levels 2 and 3. It's like I've overplayed it, and I can't even complete the first two levels lol.
I'm going to take a break from this game for a day or two and come back to it with fresh hands, eyes, and mind
Ninja Gaiden is easily one of my favourite games on NES. I've played it enough that I can beat the game really easily now. 6-2 becomes much easier once you figure out some strategies. Even the dreaded onslaught jump in 6-2 I have a consistent strategy for now that makes it pretty easy. That being said though, getting good at the game was NOT easy. It is a brutal game to learn, and I'm not about to forget how much trouble I had at first.
I can give you some pointers for the final form of the final boss.
a) You want to be more focused on what's above you than what you're attacking. Making sure you don't get hit by projectiles is the most important part of the fight.
b) Best to my knowledge there's no way to dodge the head when it falls off. Just take the hit rather than try to jump over it and risk getting hit by the more powerful projectiles.
c) There's a nice trick in this game that's really useful at this boss. When you jump and attack, you can cancel the attack animation by pressing down. This means that while attacking and pressing down at roughly the same time in the air, you can slash your sword more times than you're really supposed to. I only discovered this recently, and it has made the last form of the final boss way easier. That being said though, he's not too terribly difficult anyways so long as you're cautious about not getting hit. The glitch makes things easier, but it's not really necessary.
Good luck! Hopefully you can knock this game out of the park!

got any tips for the second to last boss? the one scrolls back and forth and throws fireballs at you? i kinda have a strategy where i wait for him to throw them when hes all the way on the right of the screen, jump on the middle podium and then hit and attack him, he only does that twice in a row though and then you have to wait a little bit for him to make that pattern again and i have a har time at avoiding the projectiles, i need a new technique

You're on the right track at least. I typically jump on the middle pillar and attack, but you can do it more times than twice. You have to be little bold with your timing and jump slashes, but you can get him three or four times usually before having to wait. As for dodging fireballs, you have to make sure you're on the bottom floor when the fireballs get there. That way they just go off-screen and don't spin around you.
I find the best way to dodge them is to go right in the middle of them. Sometimes it's best to just run to the left or right, but only if there's already quite a bit of distance between you and them. Most times you want to sandwich yourself between them. The way they fly downwards makes this quite a bit easier than you'd think, and once you get good at it you'll only get hit once in a while.
sounds like sound advice, thanks man, i was doin that technique last night but yea i try not to get bold cause for me its one fuck up an then i restart the game, i never try to go at him again with diminished health, what messed me up was i was on a pillar when he threw the fireballs at me and one kept circling around me and ended up killing me, i got him down to four health, ill try yer technique next time i play the game
its crazy, the only time i got to the last boss was when i was playing with the nes advantage lol

UPDATE: I'm now on 4-3.
I'm fairly confident I'll make it past that point this evening, and enter Act V

I'm now officially making it to the last section of bosses with relative ease.
Hoping to clear this game sometime this week; stay tuned for an update containing pics!
