i cant recall any thing major ive lost over the years but i can tell a few stories.
this happen in 2005. wile going from yard sale to yard sale. i stopped at one and i saw a super nintendo as i was driving up on a table. so i got out and as i was walking up the driveway a woman stopped and walked quickly up the hill and picked up the snes and bought it for 5 dollars. (if had know she was going for that i would have ran to get it lol) it has all its connections plus 2 controllers but no games (thankfully)
the other story was sort of a loss but also was somthing you dont see everyday. this happened just a few weeks ago.
i was at a mom pop gaming store looking for something good to buy this guy walks in and has a boxed earthbound near mint with the guide book and crono trigger and final fantasy 2. he sold it to the store for just 380. i was really temped to offer just a bit more (like 450) to get all that rare jewels but i didnt cause i was friend with the store owner and im sure he wouldnt have like me buying it out from under him. so heres the loss i was planning to buy a sealed super smash bros 64 for 380 on the shelf. it wasnt there though (it had been there for 2 years) turns out the guy that sold the earthbound in box was the guy that bought the smash bros sealed. so i said playfully to him screw you man lol. (i didnt mean it)
I sort of got to the bottom of it a bit ago. The guy is a pro scammer. Previously to this deal I had sent the guy just over $1000 combined for two other game deals. Those deals worked out just fine. Somehow the guy was able to have the delivery confirmation# tied to my address, but the envelopes had a different shipping address in my town. Thankfully no one at the other address accepted the package. The PO found them and since they are not big boxes full of SNES games they are being returned to sender. I can't believe they where able to manipulate the electronic shipping info like that. It's mind blowing. According to PayPal I am not eligible for buyer's protection, but I should be able to file a chargeback. I got pictures of the bogus packages so that should help my cause. I am a bit relieved, The whole deal was wacky from the get go. Hopefully I get my money back. I guess when something is too good to be true, it likely is.
There's nothing stopping anyone from changing the address text on a generated shipping label before they print it. I've wondered how much of the shipping info is stored in the PO systems tied to a label/tracking #. If the clerk or carrier or whoever is looking at the package to get the address they wouldn't have any immediate reason to suspect it's wrong.
Trade it stores here in NC are horrible. Walked in one a awhile back and found a sealed copy of smb3 challenge set for 5 dollars, sold it the same day for 180. Went in the other week and in the display was smb/dh loose cart for 51 dollars lol. They tell me corporate has set prices on their games but they'll have three copies of the same game for three different prices. I was there last week and picked up the God of War 3 collectors edition with pandoras box, in the box for 5 dollars.
Walked up at the local flea market just as a guy bought a stack of SNES games for $10. I didn't get to see all of them, but I did see Run Saber in that stack.
gotta hate that! I know the feeling man
This is a really unpleasant feeling. Fortunately, I have yet to experience it...
this was probably a bunch of BS to begin with (i hate trolls), but I contacted this guy 1 hour after he posted and heard nothing back. I guess it could have been legit and was just snatched super fast

That's 100% horseshit. Nobody has all those games, arranges them that way for that picture, and doesn't know what they are worth.

A while back some guy posted an ad on CL selling a couple n64 mario games I wanted. When I began txting him I asked if he had any other games. He told me he had a box full of em and I told him Id be interested and if he could pls shoot me some pix. He sent me pix of a ton of awesome n64 and snes games and a few nes games and consoles. Games included both gold n64 zeldas, mario party, zelda III, castlevania IV, contra III, turtles in time, E.V.O., mega man X, mario kart, mario kart 64 and several other decent games mixed in with a bunch of random sports games etc. So after much negotiating (apparently he had at least 10 other people interested) we settled on 180 for everything. I drive about 20 mins to this guys house and he tells me that the games are at his cousins. Ok, so we drive to his cousins. We get to his cousins and he brings out a box. I hand him the money and I take the games to my car and start goin thru em. I go thru the games and all the mario, zelda, mega man, castlevania, turtles and contra games are MIA... LOL, everything was missing except for E.V.O. and the sports games and the consoles. So I asked what happened to the other games (I think he expected me to just take off without checking the games) and he tells me he didnt know any were missing. He went inside and "found" about half of them. Then he tells me that he cant find the rest and some were really damaged because their dog got to them. At this point he tells me that if im not interested, he had people lined up waiting to buy. I called his bluff and told him he could have his games back and that I wanted all my money back. He tells me to hold on a sec and goes back inside and finds more games. He told me Turtles in time and contra III had been chewed up by the dog so he didnt want to give me those but I told him I didnt care if they were. So he brings out those 2 and theres nothing wrong with them except for some marker on the back of contra. In the end, I got everything except mario kart 64 and mario all stars for the snes. He kept bringing games out because he didnt want to give me any of my cash back but although I didnt get everything we had agreed on, I was more than happy with my purchase.

What an asshole! At least ya got your games. The "Chewed up by the dog" excuse is getting old...
I found an NES lot with 5 CIB games for 100 bucks.. DK Jr. Math was one of them. Of course, I got the dreaded "Someone's going to pick it up in a few minutes" excuse
In a basement an electronics store, near from my home, The owner has sold few hundreds of games cib nes, snes, n64 & gamecube.. only few weeks before I had passed. I asked how much he sold this, he told me a few dollars/each... The games were all purchased by the same guy.. DAMN !

Where did you find this? Yard sale?
What condition were they in (especially the DK Jr Math box)?

lol recently noticed a trend where it truly is losers weepers, in the sense that people get offended that they cant get the same deals as you. I had a few buddies just say your lucky and thatThey have bad luck so it sucks but its not a bad thing, but others just rip non-stop about me trading/wheeling and dealing/flipping stuff.
I mean geeze its 2014 everything revolves around the internet, make it happen.
My philosophy is if your paying MSRP stuff your doing it wrong, however not saying buying a new game for $60 is wrong, but the way prices drop so quick and with sales, not to mention wheeling and dealing to cut down on the prices of games trading stuff here and there...
hit up a garage sale advertising "Nintendo." figure it might be worth a shot.
find a box with an original nes, orange zapper, some old third party controllers, 2 games (smb/duck hunt, bad dudes, both with dust sleeves), and an official nes cleaning kit, box, plastic, papers, everything.
just wanted the cleaner and the 2 games, ask the guy how much, sadly tells me he's not selling separately, that the whole box together is $60. yeah, no...so sadly had to walk away from that because i'm on a budget and i'd be mostly paying for controllers that may not work, and a system that even if it did work, i'd have trouble flipping it for a semblance of cash return given the retro game stores around here are loaded with them as well as retron systems. i'd have tried to haggle, but i'm not good at it and people where I live are more stubborn than I am in terms of pricing...meh.
i know they're common/cheap, hence why i only wanted them and not the whole lot. $60 for junk controllers, a possible janked system, some drop in a bucket games, and a cleaning tool? do i really come off as a simpleton willing to pay for all that?
^ no, it just doesn't really qualify as a losers weepers story since the stuff was junk anyway. You didn't "lose out" on anything. As lurv said, that guy did you a favour.
Since there has been some question as to the true Loser-ness of some of the other posts. I present to you a verified loser of the highest caliber. i.e. me

I got an email looking if I'd entertain shipping. It has been a really slow season around these parts, and with Winter coming, I said to my self, "fuck it, let's begin this vile charade"
Money order, no paypal, other state, no pictures. The red flags were everywhere. I was in a butcher shop of other nerds' dreams. But this dude was smoooooooooooth otherwise. Worked me for a day, and actually gave me a lot of legit personal information that I looked up and verified (which I'll be putting to use soon).
Suffice to say I sent him $100 and communication ceased after a brief "the package has been shipped" email headed my way the next day with no tracking number. Guy had to pick up in New Hampshire, and unless he stole someone's identity, the red button of fraud has been pushed.

This guy has been running this exact play for a while now. He got me over a year ago, same story. I didn't do anything about it chalking it up to me being dumb, but he's kept on with it and we need to get police involved. I encourage you to file a police report. If you pm me I can provide my contact info for you or the police. I should still have the money order receipt with his name/address and the email exchange with him.
