Huge Ebay scam Overpriced Reproduction Carts

I've noticed a recent scam on Ebay in which sellers were selling reproduction NES games without noting that they were in fact repros. For example Super Mario bros "lost levels version" sold for $100 when it is in fact worth $25 and is from a site called gamereproductions.com. I have nothing against the repros I just think buyers should know what they are paying for. I've seen too many people get ripped off on reproduction carts thinking its a rare Zelda prototype or the only "earthbound" for Nes in existance.

  • Well it's not a scam, per se, but it does seem a little underhanded. You have to ask yourself this question: where does the sellers right to maximize profit end and the buyers obligation to try and make as informed a purchase as possible begin? It's definitely a gray area to be sure.
  • This is not anything new, has been happening for years. As long as the sellers are not specifically saying its one of a kind or original, the only thing that can be said is stupid buyers for not doing research. When I used to put my products on eBay they would frequently sell for more than on my website...
  • I respect the man who found the California Raisins proto, he wouldnt dump it because he knew that stuff like that would happen. I heard about the zelda 3 supposed prototype that was just a teeny bit of links awakening ported onto nes. Someone ended up paying about 1500 for one and got ripped, poor guy.
  • What the hell? I just went to that site you listed and they had California Raisins Repos, I guess the guy got an offer to good to refuse.
  • The proto changed hands long ago...and unfortunately the kid that found it was murdered. Tragic.
  • Slightly off topic but has anybody played the SMB Lost Levels Repro?
    Is it a good port?

I've played right through the Lost Levels on Mario All-Stars on the SNES and I'm very tempted to get the real thing for the FDS but it is quite expensive so this could be a cheaper alternative.
  • ^ The SMB2j repro is great - there are no major glitches and the wind works just as it should.
  • where can u get the smb lost levels repro?

i dont rememner seeing it at gamereproductions.
  • There's Leonk's site at nesreproductions.com as well... That's where I got mine from.

You're not serious about the murder part are you?
  • Sadly he is indeed not joking. His roomates stole his collection and killed him.

  • He also barely knew his roommates, and they were major druggies from what I understand. They figured out that his collection was worth money and killed him, and took his games and his car.
  • Wow, thats horrible, poor guy.
