how is it a genesis test cartridge from a nintendo service center, seller not making much sense with that title
Some service centers were trained and authorized by Sega to fix Sega products as well, whih is the case for the place this was bought from. In fact I have a business card from a former center that says they fix Nintendo and Sega products on it.
i never knew they did sega service , i remember a place by me doing nintendo repair but never knew they did genesis as well. what does the cart do ? same as the nes one ??

Yup, Sega didn't have the same type of service program at all. If you called Nintendo and said 'Hey, my system's broken!' they would usually say 'Oh, well give me your address and I can refer you to the nearest Authorized Nintendo Service Center in your area' which actually meant 'This shop paid us (Nintendo) money to be called an Authorized Service Center and we will in turn send them your business.'
From what I know of Sega, all they did was have you send products through the mail to them. There's a chance that they had a few 'authorized' locations around the country that dealt with defective items, but that's just a guess. That's also the reason you see Nintendo service equipment around and, as far as I know, the first time (or at the very least one of the first times) you've seen any Sega diagnostic equipment.

It basically tests the controllers, the external port, the cartridge port (by way of the cartridge working, you know the port is working), the sound quality and the colorization. It's a pretty simple program, but it was effective in that it's simple because you can discredit any other variables that may show an improperly functioning system as working properly and vice versa.

figured that was the basic idea, i remember there being a world of nintendo kiosk in the mall that had the test station behind the counter. i thought it was cool back then wish i could have gotten my hands on one back then
