Yet Another Stadium Events up for auction on eBay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-NES-1986-Family-Fun-Fitness-Set-W-Athletic-World-amp-Stadium-Events-/131408148260?_trksid=p2054897.l4275

Interesting that the seller states that the instructions for the SE might be laying around and thrown in (if he can find them).  Pics look legit, and since he has a high reserve (that hasn't been met yet) I'm sure he knows what he's selling.  I know if I had a spare SE laying around the house, I'd be tearing things apart to find that manual.  I mean...don't you think that would add at least a grand to the selling price?

  • Also, I just noticed the shipping costs. It's showing $125 to get it from CA to OH? Am I to guess that's all insurance and overnight delivery?
  • Coolio! I wonder what the story is behind it.
  • Neat. First SE cart auction of the year. Good time to be a data miner
  • 'Stadium Events (with sleeve and no instruction booklet) (I might have the instruction booklet in a closet and will look for it as this auction is going. If found, it will be included in the package).'

This guy doesn't seem to know how much of a game changer the manual would be, very interesting.
  • My neck of the woods. Why wasn't this posted on Craigslist

    Did you post yours recently?
  • Yeah, tried to catch the hype wave of the sealed copy. Didn't work out but I'm just gonna leave it up there for whoever wants it.

No solid offers other than the ones I get here on occasion.

Could also be looking to increase selling price on the 'chance' the manual is included. No doubt some bidder will take a gamble on it.

Shoot, if I bought this lot you bet your ass I'd be in that house picking it up helping them looking for this manual.

True, it could be the strategy, but it would imply that the guy consciously made his auction to look like a guy who has no clue what he's selling, which would be a bit fishy. I don't have the definite answer, but personnaly I think it looks like a listing made by an honest and clueless seller.

In any case, I agree with you, some bidders will definitely take the gamble that the manual is indeed somewhere in a closet

  • Haha

    'Knock knock'

    'Hello?'

'Hi yes I'm here to pick up SE.'

    'Ok, sure come in'

    'DON'T MIND IF I DO'

This is what I thought, but the reserve makes it obvious he knows what he has.

So true, I haven't saw there was a reserve price. Well, this seems very odd, that guy is definitely playing some kind of game, but why exactly? I personally don't get it.
  • How rare is the actual pad? I know Athletic World isn't TOO hard to get, in the $500/$600 range but I'm more curious about the pad than the actual two games personally.

The pad is relatively rare, and sell for somewhere between $80-125 I'd say.

Also, when you mention Athletic world at $500/600, you must be talking about the FFF early version CIB, right?

Yeah, is this a different, more rare/more common version?

  • The pad and AW together are only worth about $50 without their boxes. All the value is in the SE cart here.

The FFFAW manual is probably somewhere around $100 though?  Been awhile since I sold one but that's what I remember.

Doubt it, considering there's a reserve price (which at 4K still hasn't been met).

People who have no clue wouldn't care that much.

Indeed, I missed that there was a reserve price on his auction, the guy knows what he has. Still, why the auction is made 'like he's clueless' otherwise? You're selling a Stadium Events, you know what its worth, you don't just randomly say that you might have the manual somewhere and will include it if you ever found it, that's just silly.

  • In a day and age of massive counterfeiting I would flag this one as being highly suspicious. Claiming to maybe have the manual tucked away somewhere is an attempt to indicate that he is the original owner. His history shows that he sold a sealed dreamcast, meaning he is a collector (as if the reserve didn't already indicate this in some way). In summary it is unlikely that a modern day collector would have had a stadium events when released. As such he is likely to be hiding something. Since he appears to be a collector and most likely did not buy this upon release, he would have bought this more recently and probobly paid well, so how did he misplace it? The lock on this would be will he show the boards when requested? For someone selling something expecting to get thousands, I would expect that he would be willing to show the boards upon request.
  • Maybe the seller thinks that the game itself is the valuable one and that the manual doesnt add much value. That, or maybe it can be an attempt to drum up more excitement around the auction.

EDIT: It could be a fake cart too of course.
  • Yeah. At this point I'd bet that his reserve is a bit too high, the auction comes in under the reserve, then he revises the listing to sound more educated and/or lower the price. I don't think it's just a coincidence he put this up just after the sealed copy was sold with all of that news coverage. Just look at the super fake listing that came up.
  • Well, it was at $5500 but the seller pulled it before the 12 hour mark. Weak...
  • He sent all the bidders a message yesterday (although we didn't get it!) I messaged him just now and here's his response.

    ---

    Hello,

I am emailing all of you and letting you know that the listing is going to be pulled and will be back up tonight 01/26/2015 by 7:30 PST. I contacted EBay and they suggested that I let you all know that I am doing this. The reason for the pull is I have to put some stipulations to protect myself (the seller) and you (the bidder) and buyer (winning bidder). Just an FYI I will not be accepting PayPal as a form of payment, unless you agree to pay the 2.9% plus $0.30 USD fee on the total amount.

Pretty sure that's a listing violation. Dude sounds like an all around ass.
  • Fuck man. I can see spending $5500 on Stadium Events, but when he tacks on the extra $0.30 that's totally a deal breaker for me. Does he expect cash or something? That doesn't really protect the buyer at all. That's what paypal does... It's all of $160 in fees oh no!
