Ug! I just got hit by the game breaker glitch in Rat Race. First time that happened to me. Sucks because I had a 9 lives and all my continues. I had finally beat that damn rat to the bomb! Guess I'll pop in another game.

im gonna have to play the arcade version i didnt know it was any different from the nes one, i never saw it at any arcades around here when i was younger
Sometimes you can win the race, kick the bomb, but the rat never dies/drops down. You are just stuck there and have no option but to reset the console.

wow that sounds terrible, it really seems like this game goes downhill after level 6, i youtubed the level and it doesnt even look fun it just looks annoying, i dont look forward to playing this level at all
I youtubed a no death playthrough to just see all the levels, and yeah, there are later levels that look like they are stupid hard. That's why I'm using Game Genie to assist my attempts.
I absolutely despise Volkmire's Inferno and the last part of Karnath's Lair though. I tend to use the warp in Level Six (Karnath's Lair) to go to Level Eight (Intruder Excluder). Does anyone remember the Nintendo Power where they covered this game for almost 1/3rd of the magazine? I'd love to get a hold of a copy of that again.
Level 3 is definitely the stage that'll weed out the casual gamers from the more hardcore. I loved this game back in the day and managed to complete it once. I do wish that they had stuck with a more conventional beat-em-up format as the fighting mechanics are actually pretty fun.
I remember spending a hour at Funcoland really young in the early 2000s looking games for my first Sega Genesis from a hand me down from a cousin where I decided to pick up a boxed copy of Battletoads. My body wasn't ready for the butt kicking I would receive from the game, but it was still awesome. I was able to get to the warp on the first turbo tunnel. Its one of those games the game genie is made for. lol
The game is difficult as we're all aware, but isn't that what NES is all about? Tough games that reinforce a gamer's skill level at a time when we were kids with a library under 20 carts. Respect to anybody who can beat the game.
I'm now able to get to level 12 everytime I play, (usually with all my continues). I still haven't made it all the way to the top of the tower, although I'm getting close. The farthest I've made it so far is the yellow cloud who chases you and tries to blow you off, (this is the final obstacle before facing the Dark Queen).
I kinda gave up because of the difficulty of the level I'm stuck on, the turbo tunnel started pissing me off again too, those jumps right befor the last section always kill me, I still wanna beat it but I moved into other games for the time being

Grabbing some enemies by the wanker then punching them in the nuts whilst still holding said wanker
Making other enemies puke after punching them
Seeing rats straining to take a dump in bathrooms

Arcade version's more of a straightforward beat-em-up, isn't it?
Yeah,although there's a shooter type stage and one where you are going down a tunnel,like in the nes version. It's a pretty fun game.

Aw, come on! Rat Race is the best level. :-)
The masochist in me actually kind of agrees with you. This is about the only level that has me actually screaming at the TV.
