Cheap AV & Svideo switch Box
I thought this switch box was a great deal. Seller was fast with shipping too.
Many of my consoles are standard AV and Svideo so I am hoping this little thing will work out.
For $13 it's worth the risk.
Tested the box today and love it. Nice fit and finish not cheap looking.
Auto switching works and No noticeable noise/interference introduced by using the box. It will convert AV to svideo if desired. (slight quality drop)
Just wanted to share with the rest of NA

While I do have three systems running RGB to PVM, I have 6 running through S Video/Composite to a CRT and my current switch only has 2 S Video inputs. This will be a big help!

Damn. Thanks for reminding me that I needed to upgrade mine. Just grabbed one, it's definitely a stellar deal.

Me too. I use a Sony PVM for RGB. It also has svideo input which will work great with this box.
My Sega Saturn, dreamcast and PS1 are svideo and I have tons of AV

I would love to grab a 20" PVM and have everything running to it, but for now I have a 14" Sony and only have Genesis, SNES and Saturn running to it via RGB. All my S-Video/Composite is running to a 20" Toshiba CRT.

The claim it makes on the back of the box pretty much confirms this.
"converts S-Video signals into composite video signals for compatibility with virtually any component" So basically they are saying they have mashed all your composite and S-Video signals together so it will look like garbage.
I recently purchased this Radioshack S-Video/Component switch and it has fake S-video as well.

Some switchers have better quality S-video than others but every one I've tried has introduced a checker board pattern that anyone who has used those cheap S-Video cables will recognize.

I have not witnessed any of these issues. No checker board patterns are produced.

No, it outputs two separate video signals simultaneously.
If the console is outputting Svideo and you choose the switches AV output, it will look sub-par.
With my testing:
The switches svideo output matches the quality from a straight svideo cable from console.
Same for AV

What display are you using? I am using a 27" Sony CRT. I have a feeling some displays may be more susceptible to this than others. The higher end Radio Shack switch I am using is much better than some unpowered switches but it still has trouble with checkerboarding during fast moving scenes.

I understand that but this just sounds like a recipe for disaster, either due to poor design or poor signal isolation. What kind of conversion can honestly be expected for $13?

Sorry for the slow reply. I use a 20" Sony PVM or a HDTV. Both worked great with this cheap little box
The s-video upconvert/downconvert is a nice feature. While it doesn't restore lost detail in the composite encoded video, the upconvert to s-video does strip out most or all dot crawl artifacts from the video.
