Pretty sure I've been backdoored on this killer deal

I'm a bit pissed and paranoid about this one. I don't have much money to spend on games so when a great deal like this popped up it was a perfect opportunity to finally have the games again.

Anyways BIN $175 shipped for Earthbound and Chrono Trigger. Both complete except no pics of Chrono's cart.

I paid immediately on Jan 20 and the seller marked it as shipped on Jan 22. Communication was standard and I've been left positive feedback. The seller shipped Media Mail from Illinois and I am in Arkansas but its still not here. I started a case after waiting two weeks. Now that I've started a case the seller is no longer responding. The seller did respond to the case saying it was sent Media Mail and it would be there soon.

I hope its a situation like what happened with JoneBone and the person that backdoored me owns up to it. Can Media Mail really take this long to get from Illinois to Arkansas?

I'm pretty positive I got backdoored but what do you guys think? Also if I did get backdoored I would appreciate the buyer to own up and make this right.

  • What does tracking say?has the item entered the system after he printed a label? No matter what you are covered but I'd only worry about a back door if the PO never received it.
  • media mail can take FOREVER.

Assuming it arrives, you might owe postage if USPS opened it and realized it wasn't MM-eligible.

There is just no excuse to mail games via Media Mail. It can take forever, and can get you in trouble.
  • Hmm... Personally, given the low price and scant description, I'd consider the chance of it being a scam before I'd think about it being a backdoor. Either way, I'd think about opening a case if it doesn't arrive by ebay's estimated date.
  • I've asked for tracking or an order number from the receipt but the seller never addresses it. He/she will address something else in my message.

I've asked before the case and during the case. No response on it. The seller said USPS estimated Feb 2nd to the 5th.

I'm not sure it was a scam because he had a couple other items for sale at the same time. The seller received positive feedback for those.
  • well that there is a darn good deal!!
  • I'd ask for money back before it's too late. Like the cliche goes, if it's too good to be true, it probably is.

I have a case already opened with eBay. I'm hoping to get the games but I can escalate it on the 10th which I'm sure I'll be refunded.

How long does Media Mail typically take? I mean if be shipped when he marked it we're looking at 10 business days.
  • Media mail can sometimes just get stuck somewhere forever. If the seller didn't upload any tracking info to ebay, then they're most like bullshitting you and trying to string you along until after the paypal claim deadline. Which recently got extended beyond the original 45 days anyway I think. Just keep pursuing the claim until/unless it happens to show up.
  • Media Mail is 2-8 business days, but video games should not be sent at Media Mail rates. Its possible that it is being held somewhere for that reason.
  • I thought media mail was being discontinued by the USPS.
  • Looks like a scam. He sold another Earthbound for less 2 days later:

He stole the picture from that listing from here:

He sold several games at absurdly low prices. He didn't get feedback yet for any of them. He only got feedback for the cheap stuff he sold.

Thanks again Red. Did you just browse the Completed Listings for that? Curious, is there a way to browse a specific seller's listings?

Also I reported the item and updated my case with this information.
  • Yeah, I've never had an issue with mailing anything media. I would NEVER ship an earthbound or Chrono trigger with that service though. I only use it when I'm selling junk that's not worth the shipping cost of pracel select or priority. like recently, 18 damaged 2600 carts. Sold em for 18 bucks, and shipping would've been over 10, just not worth it. 3 bucks is much more appealing for the buyer.
  • Escalated my case today and reported his other listings. Can't wait to neg this asshole.

Yes, there's a completed listings checkbox on the left side of the page when you're looking at a specific seller's items.

    Cool, thanks Red

  • Not sure if it's different now, but a few years back when I started selling, they required me to successfully complete sales (upload tracking, receive positive feedback) before releasing the funds to me. It looks like this guy sold a few stupid things for cheap in order to expedite that process, and then started selling some higher value stuff, so he started getting his funds immediately released to him. Short term loan seems to be the plan here for him. His account is only a couple months old.
  • And here is the source of your stolen Earthbound and Chrono Trigger pics

Haha he found a thread from almost 5 years back to get pictures from.

Another disgruntled buyer left him negative feedback same day as myself.
