He did say it was in Canadian Dollars. So it's more than likely a bit easier on the wallet converted to US Dollars. Although if we're counting the 1 day fire sale auction, or all the Chile copies. Well that's when it seems a little steep, but it might be the new price point now.

Highest completed I'm seeing is a hair over $2,000

Open eBay auction, and ended $500+ less than what this seller is asking. Seems overpriced to me.
Like you've mentioned, there are Chilean copies still flooding the market, one of which just went unsold at $1,700. If we're talking about new price points, the title would be on the decline and not the rise IMO.

I know of a few private sales that have gone past ebay's price points. But the private sales usually go for more, for most games it seems. I also have seen a lot of skepticism from people toward the Chilean copies coming in. Part of people swapping the Playtronics versions into more "pure" NTSC copies, or the relabeled backs swapped off. So it might push the price point higher for fear of "fakes" or unpure NTSC copies coming in.
Unless someone else stole these images for their own use, they do exist and are in the hands of a game selling shop. If hes serious about moving them, theyll appear on his ebay page at some point.

Has to depend on condition too though, most of the F2s I see are pretty worn. If someone has a Near Mint / Mint F2 CIB they want to sell, I'd make a legit offer.
I would too. It would have to be balls nice though. All shaven and clean.
