Factory sealed games vs. re-sealed

I've heard of some ebay scams involving re-sealed games that were advertised as factory sealed. There was an article on ebay a while ago explaining how to tell the difference but i cant find it. Can anyone explain to me the signs too look for in spotting re-sealed games?

  • Horizontal seam across the back, for true factory sealed games.
  • Thanks. I'll have to look for that when buying on ebay.
  • you should try searching the forum a bit. The search bar is on the left hand side of the screen. Some of this stuff has been addressed before. servicegames812 wrote the review you are talking about on ebay.

  • ok, thanks. I'll have to make sure I dont repeat any topics :S
  • He definitely seems excited to be here lol
  • Nick wrote a pretty good guide on ebay. If you check the guide, it does help. Nothing like experience, though. I have (as I am sure any sealed collector has) bought some reseals on ebay that are done so well you have to look REALLY close and know exactly what to look for to be able to tell the difference.
  • i thought there were some games that didnt have the line on the back
  • The line means very little, honestly. I do not even really check for the line much anymore. The line can easily be faked. Other things either can't be faked or are very hard to fake.
  • i better check my factory sealed stuff image
  • Honestly, the only way to tell is to open it. Seriously. I had a sealed Ikari Warriors II that I was 100% sure was legit that turned out to be resealed. Faked the yellowing on the glue on the hangtab, the seam, everything.
  • How do I find that article on eBay that is being referred to?

  • ^Thanks, I was actually just coming back here to edit my post, I found it myself.
  • Bronty is the man when it comes to sealed games,I am sure he has a trick or two up his sleeve for spotting fake seals. He has probably seen many fake sealed games, some good and some terriable.
  • That's my guide, although I don't know nearly as much about spotting resealed games as some other users do (bronty, raregamergirl, dain, etc). A horizontal seam is easily faked, I can do it quickly and relatively easily with my shrinkwrap machine. However, there are several properties that you need to check for, which are all talked about in the guide.

But as Sara said, there's nothing like experience.
