How do you get your hands on a kiosk?

Hey all, is there a good way to get your hands on a kiosk or is it mostly luck trying to track one down? I really want a Wii U kiosk but everywhere I ask they say a Nintendo rep will come pick it up at some point and it's out of their control. Target just went out of business up here and the Amiibo kiosk/display, Xbone display, and PS4 displays were the ONLY thing in the store that were not for sale. The guy told me they'd be picked up by reps or send back to the manufacturer.

I did get a kiosk Wii U console but it is just the console itself with no contorllers or the display/monitor itself. EBay may be an option down the road but the shipping would be out of this world. So where do people come up with these things?

  • Reps don't pick them up unless they want them for themselves. All stores destroy them, store them (ie shove in back and forget it), or an employee takes them home.

You just have to find the right person to ask.
  • In the past I think kiosks slipped through the cracks easier. People didn't think anything of them. If a NWC was held today I'd I don't think any of the carts would leave Nintendo's hands.
  • Finding out who the rep is in the area. They control the asset and usually on a store closing the will sell it to a liquidation company not to deal with it. However if you can get to them first its fair game.
  • I agree with knowing a rep. I came across a dismantled Wii U display at a yard sale last year. I asked the guy how he got his hands on it and he said he got it from a friend working out back in a Best Buy.
  • I'll have to be a little more persistent, I guess. Every time I ask a manager at the store they all tell me, "Oh, someone will come dismantle that and pick it up. Out of our control." Any suggestions on how to find out who the local rep is. It must be a regional thing around here since my town is pretty small.
  • I just saw a Wii kiosk at a flea market, but the thing was pretty scummy looking. They are out there, though.
  • I'm dying to get a SNES one. Hoping one will pop up on kijiji one day
  • I always assumed it was just a matter of sleeping with the right people but the only thing I have to show for it is a bad case of vd. I think a lot of it is luck and searching shit like Craigslist.
  • they had a Wii U one in CO the other day ... I didn't mind much attention to it ..

it was fairly complete w/o the gaming unit tho

I have been on the search for a Wii kiosk and I happened to run across it =0/
  • Just make sure to write "kiosk" every now and then in your local ads site(s) and be patient. You'll find one eventually, you just gotta keep an active eye out
  • I've tried and failed. Gone to shops that are closing down and asked to buy their kiosk. Their replies are the same, "We have to send them back".
  • Knowing your local reps is the best way, especially for a current gen kiosk. The new stuff they do actually come and take away. If it's a last gen/phased out system, then they win generally just toss it, but not the new stuff.
  • I picked mine up from the flea market..

I have also noticed some in retro stores.

I am sure they are willing to sell for a decent price.
  • I'm willing to put down a good chunk on a Wii U kiosk. As others have said I never get anywhere by asking at stores.
  • Well if you're going to get your hands on one it's pretty simple

    1) get close

    2) toucheytouch

A member just posted a craigslist ad for one in Ohio under auction spotlight.
  • Another avenue is to ask around local physician offices, they might still have old kiosks from back in the SNES/Genesis/N64 era to entertain kids in the waiting room. IIRC, someone over at Segaage got a Genesis kiosk that was sitting in storage at a dentist practice.
  • It is hard to get them right from the store. You will always get some BS from an employee...cause usually they want them (cant blame em). I asked at Target about a Majoras Mask cardboard display and guy said I could have it when they were ready to take it down...but then after chatting with him for a while, he mentioned that he usually takes them home, so I knew he would never call me. I went back to Target and they were swapped out and I never got a call.

I usually try craigslist. I got 2 rare Genesis kiosks on CL that were being sold by a dentist as others have mentioned.
  • I had an xbox kiosk. sold it on craigslist, so probably a good spot to find them. personally, the kiosk takes up a lot of room and just not my cup of tea.
  • I just put my Wii U Kiosk system on eBay. Necro bump.
  • I remember just before the Wii U first came out GameStops all over the place were tossing out Wii Kiosk left and right. There was a thread here on NA where a number of people were finding them. Even I found one, well half of one. I guess what I'm saying is once the NX gets closer to release maybe keep a look out at your local GameStop dumpsters.

Must be nice to have those kind of connections.

It's funny, I asked both EB Games here what happened to their Kiosks and they both gave me the run around (both Wii U kiosks were gone within a few days of each other). Ttwo employees straight up lied to me about it saying they weren't sure. I was like, 'aren't you the manager?.. it didn't just get up and walk away', and he said, 'I'm not 100% sure what happened to it.' haha, why is this top secret?

You have to kind of buddy up to people who work there. If you're a random dude coming in asking for a kiosk, they're going to look at you like you got three heads. But if you get to know someone at the store, and then casually mention "Boy those kiosks look neat. What are you doing with them after they stop selling?" "Oh, we throw them out." "Huh. I'd take it off your hands and haul it away. Give a few bucks if you let me know in advance." "Oh, we'll keep that in mind." Keep it on the downlow so corporate doesn't put the kibosh on it.

I bought this from a local collector/game store owner. I didn't have any Nintendo connection for this but thanks for assuming with the "must be nice" remark.

  • Got my PlayStation 2 kiosk from Goodwill. $24.92 without the PS2. It did still have controllers, LCD, and component cables.

haha,,, you must be one of the most defensive people on this board. Relax. I just know you have a ton of collectibles, know a lot of collectors, and have a lot of connections in this hobby due to some of the one of kind items you have, but thanks for assuming I meant the worst. It's funny because I AMLOST reworded my sentences as I thought you might take it the wrong way, which you did.

You have to remember things that offend you might not offend others and vice versa.

"Must be nice" is not something you said in jest anymore these days. It usually is a stab at someone in terms of  the only reason they obtained XXX is because of some connections, etc. Or "must be nice" that guy lives in a mansion, etc. Most people would take that in a negative fashion. I am not the only one.

And yes, you are right, I am extremely defensive about shit because everyone has always assumed stuff about me but don't know a thing about me. Assumption of how "I" word stuff = people think the worst of me. Anyone who knows me or has met me in person on these boards will tell you something completely different.

Sorry I took it the wrong way but I am sure you know I get a lot of hate for just collecting video games. I don't even have a YouTube channel or am a visible personality.

  • I hear ya Dream. But I think you'll have less to respond to if you respond to less... my 1.5c anyways (2c canadian)

Exactly.   Keep the wheels greased with some preorders, renewing your Pro membership, fantastic survey results, etc.

Mine hasn't hooked me up on anything that large, but I've scored some pretty cool promo/smaller stuff that way.

Bah, we all know you use your "video game privilege" to score sweet deals.
