Games last generation that fell under the Radar
I always love finding new games that maybe didn't get a fair shake. Lots of games I loved last gen didn't really set the world on fire. Good examples in my opinion are Vanquish, Shadow of the Damned, Binary Domain, and Stranglehold (I know that far back). What games do you feel didn't get the glory they deserved?
Comments
Nier(though it's gotten more praise lately), Folklore (PS3), Fragile Dreams(Wii), Enslaved Odyssey to the West. Lost Odyssey maybe considered a lesser known title as well, not sure.
On DS: Radiant Historia (one of the best jrpgs post 2000) and DBZ Attack of the Saiyans.
Also want to give a big shoutout to Ys: Origin. PC exclusive from '06 that we didn't get until 2012. It's an excellent Ys game.

Lost Odyessy is a great example. I almost forgot that one myself. I consider that the last great epic jrpg. I only wish the new final fantasy games would replicate the formula.
Klonoa (Wii)
The Darkness (done by Starbreeze who worked on the Riddick games and the new Wolfenstine)
This came out right around the same time as Bioshock, and that was hailed as one of the best games ever while The Darkness was mostly ignored. The Sopranos meets Supernatural setting is pretty novel for an FPS. Shooying out all the lights allows you to best out some cool powers, and makes for interesting gameplay. You get some light open world elements with side quests and tv's to watch with classic cartoons and feature length movies. Thhe story is gut wrenching and has one of the most disturbings versions of hell in any medium.
Not given a fair shake... that's definitely Mirror's Edge. Those who like it seem to love it, and when I played it for the first time I swore it was going to be a huge hit. Like I was saying just the other day, it has a kind of cult following.
Mirror's edge is fantastic. Supposedly there's a sequel to be released this year or next. I may have to get a new Gen console soon.
Here are some of my favorites from last gen's sleepers.
3rd person shooter where you blast giant bugs and robots. Super fun and they made a sequel, EDF 2025. Steer clear of EDF Insect Armageddon though.
A satirical take on shooters. Matt Hazard is a self aware game character who battles his way through shooter game tropes and clichés. Pretty damn funny.
A creepy horror survival game in the vein of a Twin Peaks murder mystery.

You're right. Atlus must be rolling in the money off of the 4 people in this thread (on a forum dedicated to video games) who played their game. I suppose they're working on a PS4 HD remaster so all 4 of us can buy it again!

Actually, Atlus is rolling in about 6 times the money than they expected for the game, and this is from 2010.

So It gained six times the sales and probably more than double that in exposure more than they anticipated. I wouldn't call that "Under the Radar"

According to that link you posted, Atlus USA expected to sell 25,000 units. Instead they sold 160,000 units. So 160,000 PS3 owners (that's assuming people didn't buy multiple copies of the game) bought the game. 160,000 of 13,500,000 PS3 owners bought the game. 1.2% of PS3 owners in 2010 bought the game.
Yeah... this surely was a well received game. No flying under the RADAR here...

Yeah, it is one of the few games that will probably persuade me to get a newer console. Cool to find another Mirror's Edge lover on here!
Whilst it was a financial success by selling enough copies, it was never a featured game anywhere.
It kind of just died off into obscurity.
Heavenly Sword is another than came to mind, its been out for quite awhile, recently finished it and its held up well.
Oh man, the characters in that game are AMAZING! The voice acting is some of the best I have ever heard, too. As a matter of fact, I rented the movie of it that they released a year or two ago. I thought it would be great... man, it was really bad. Wrong actors, no emotion, nothing. The game is where it's at. Good mention!

This game is a-maz-ing. Oh man I love playing as Tekkaman. Recently picked this up and so glad I did. It's clearly part of the vs. series, a logical step forward from Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (And imo much better than MVC3). Great pick!

My favorite game by far I played last year was Darkness 2. It's based on some comics that are pretty cool too. The quad wield concept was just so damn fun.
This game was a 3rd person shooter that was just dripping with personality, challenging as hell, and also had some really fun game play elements (such as the tether that let you hijack other enemies). You control a little robot named glitch as you guide him through this patton-esque rebellion against the Mils.
Soul Bubbles (DS)
A beautiful (but all too brief) game in which you play as guardian spirit who must shepherd the souls in your care to safety by encapsulating them in a bubble and blowing it through maze like levels. The bubbles in this game can be squeezed through cracks and bounce off walls, and avoiding enemies who might pop the bubble. Each level introduces new physics and play mechanics that will affect your controls in interesting ways.
