I like the cassette case idea, but it doesn't look like manuals would fit. There's a person by the name of Shadowfox on thecoverproject.net that sells customgamecases which fit gb, gbc, and gba as well as the manuals. Gba manuals don't fit properly in the Nintendo DS cases with the gba cart holder.
I apologize for double posting, but for some reason when I try to edit and add pictures, the edit box stutters and hiccups. I wanted to share a pic of the customgamecase compared to the DS case with the GBA cart slot. The customegamecase has a little extra space for a manual so GBA manuals fit right in. Nintendo DS cases have an extra plastic ridge that prevent the GBA manual from fitting properly.
Here is a customgamecase.
Up close shot of the manual fitting perfectly in the customgamecase.
Here is the Nintendo DS case with GBA slot. Manual doesn't quite fit.
Up close shot of the manual not fitting in the Nintendo DS case.
I could cut out this offending ridge of plastic to make room for the manual, but kind of a bogus way to solve the issue imo.
I end up just resting one side of the manual over the manual clips to get it into the case for now.
I got two customgamecases from another gamer when I got 2 games from them and I may end up ordering more of the cases to solve the issue with the manuals for all the games.
I've recently been liking DS cases for GBA games and Cassette Tape boxes for GB and GBC games, all with printout art from 'The Cover Project'. They sit well alongside real boxes and I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet.
This method is so much more presentable. And it's much easier to pull the game you're looking for off a shelf than to flip through a dusty old binder.
Got any pictures of the cassette tape boxes? I would be interested to see how that looks.
I'm just getting started with this, but there are some great pics online --
Neat! I thought I was the only guy that thought of that (except I use mine for TG16 games).

Looks like Custom Game Cases solves the GBA manual problem while still letting us use DS-sized art, but I am able to get GBA instruction booklets to fit in DS cases with no trauma if you lay them down very carefully and close the case. Still, I'm going to check that website out, thank you.
As far as GB manuals go, I just put them between the casette boxes, which is also what I do with NES manuals for my CI games; Some people like to stuff manuals in the Nintendo sleeve but I find that putting the manuals between the games on the shelf makes them easily accessible if needed and far less likely to get damaged.

I've always liked the cassette storage for how compact it is. Keeping the manuals next to them is definitely a good work around, but I'm in agreement that I prefer having it inside where it's protected. Happy I could help.
The cassette tapes are baller. Does anyone have a pic of what they look like on the inside with the games? That might be a dumb request, ha.
Edit: Nevermind, I must have forgotten I'm on the internet and can look it up. Those are rad. I'd love to do that and have some sort of insert to keep the cart secure.
I was joking, but wish I had known about that site before though. I ended up getting a lot of 45 of them off ebay for around $15 shipped.
So you paid 33 cents apiece. That's not too bad. Especially if you don't need a hundred of them.
No, not too bad but I probably do need at least 100 if I were to do all of my GB, GBC, GBA, and GG games. Plus they are used so its hard to tell what kind of shape they actually are in.
I was going to wait until I finished to show this but I think it may be a good idea for anyone going for a full set. I was lucky enough to work at a wine distributor for a few years and got some great Magnum wood boxes from some of our wineries. This pic is my set as of now, sorry for it being blurry. I'm only about 45 carts away from complete but they are all accounted for as blank cases in these pics. It looks nice and they are sturdy boxes. I've got my NFR set in there above the green cases which represent the PAL / AUS exclusives I've accumulated. If I could find room for the CHN games I would but I'm working on something else for those most likely....
Enjoy! (The big box is a 12 wine bottle wood box essentially)
And no Josh, I didn't drink it all before I got the boxes! That would've been over $1K in wine alone
My real question is, how do you organize GBA carts? Even smaller and worse to work with loose. I grew up playing GBA primarily for handhelds, so I have quite the extensive loose collection going. My girlfriend always points out how gross they look just lined up on my shelf.

See the pic I have of the GB game in a case? Swap that with a GBA game and there you go for my setup Here's a GBA video one, and ignore the GB game next to it, I dont store them in the clip like that, that's just a temp till I cut the tabs for the GB games
I also havy Lynx, NeoGeo Pocket Color, Didj, DS, Gamegear and Supervision games setup like this. Huge flipping backlog of cases to print though, have to stop buying games and finish cleaning up the ones I have.

Is that a custom template you made? I would be interested in going this route for my GB and GB color games

Nope, you should be able to find some covers pre-made through The Cover Project's website.

Wow, the colors used for your shelves are awesome. I might steal this idea for when I rebuild mine.

Not trying to knock yours there Joe, I like it as well! Those colours just dont look like they would work in my games room.
Nice shelves ragardless guys and gals!

Saw the picture before I read the post and just assumed you were in prison and carved a Gameboy organizer out of a bar of soap.
As for mysel, I throw them loose in an old candy tin.

Would GB and GBA games fit in a CD case if you took the gray tray/disc holder part out? That would take up less room than the cassette tape cases
They do, but there's a slight bulge like they're happy to see you. Or knocked up.
