Newbie Retrog33k here.

Hey
guys and girls. My real name's Jared. I've been playing games since
1990, although I have played earlier games. My first game was the first
commander keen... unfortunately I missed the 8 bit era, but I was born
5 months before the Famicon came out in Japan.
My first real system for playing games was a 386 DOS computer, and I
was big into Epic Megagames, ID Software, and Apogee (3D Realms) games
- I didn't pay attention to the sega vs nintendo thing, for me, it was
epic vs apogee. I remember one christmas wanting a NES, but my mom
seems to have been confused, and she got me a Gameboy.... I was
disappointed by this at first, but she got me Atomic Punk, and of
course it had Tetris and Super Mario Land, and I was so addicted to it.
Then I got a SNES in 1994 when Donkey Kong Country hit the scene, and
the rest, they say, is history.
These days I play almost anything if it's interesting to me. I'm not
a fanboy for any particular console, and I have a Gamecube, a PS2, and a PSP-2000, and I'm probably gonna pick up a DSi. I want to get a Wii and
a 360.. PS3 might have to wait - I don't really know any games I really
want for it besides LittleBigPlanet, but I really do want to play
Street Fighter II HD and Megaman 9.
I'm not too familiar with anything before NES/Gameboy, for the
simple fact I've never had a Atari or a Intellivision or anything like
that, and the games that I'm interested in for these systems are on
MAME.See you around.

  • Since I am new and everything, I was wondering if you guys could help me with back issues. I feel like I'm missing some, so if you guys can verify or deny that, and if I am missing some, show me where I can get them at, I'd be much appreciated.

    Here's what I got:

    2007: Issue 9 through 12 (Incomplete?)

    2008: Issue 1 through 12 (Complete I believe)

2009: Issue 1, Issue 2, Issue 3 (It is march, so I believe I'm up to date)
  • I loved those old shareware games too - Crystal Caves, Duke Nukem (before the 3D), etc. I also enjoyed the old Sierra games too.

    Welcome and enjoy the site!

It looks like you got 'em all. That's all I have on my hard drive anyway.

    Welcome to the site!!

  • Yep, and there was no issue in May 2008, but we also had an "Extra" issue last year (we call it Issue 4.6), so there's still 12 for Volume 2.

Thank you for clearing that up. Cheers.
  • Welcome, my first "platform" was also a DOS computer. Some of the first games I ever beat were King's Quest / Space Quest / Leisure Suit Larry / Street Fighting Man / Gold Rush. Glad to see someone else who remembers the 5" floppies!
