  • Game Centre opened a new store in Georgetown, KY: 507 Joseph Dr, Harrodsburg, KY 40330, (859) 605-6075.

I stopped in a few weeks ago after hearing about them and the store is pretty typical -- everything's a little higher than Price Charting for the most part. I talked to their owner and he was really nice, helpful, and even got me a CIB copy of Jumping Flash 2 transferred from a different store for $12.

Unfortunately, when I went back to pick it up, a different guy was working and was pretty rude. When I came up to the counter with the game, he scanned it and I guess compared it to Price Charting and saw that their price was way lower than what it was going for on PC. Of course, he was like, "Well, that's definitely a mistake. This is a $35 game...I'll let you have it at this price this time, but it won't happen again. Actually, I'm gonna go over to the PS1 section right now and make sure that you can't do this again." I get it -- these stores have to make a profit, but why do they have to make it sound like giving a customer a good deal is such a horrible thing? I had to resist the urge to say that they were all pretty overpriced already, lol.

I'm all for having new local stores pop up now that DR is gone, but that experience definitely left a sour taste in my mouth.

The Owner's name is Alan, he is a gamer at heart.  He has very fair prices, and if something has sat in the store for some time, he will haggle.  I seem to always spend more than I plan to when I go in there.  If you are passing through, it is worth a stop.

Last time I got TG16 Stuff, Saturn Stuff, Dreamcast Stuff, and Genesis Stuff.

  • Must have missed these the first time around...

In Indiana, there are two "The Exchange" in the Indianapolis area - one in the Castleton neighborhood and one in the Broad Ripple neighborhood.

For Missouri, Slackers is in Jefferson City, Columbia, and has 6 St. Louis area locations (Chesterfield, Hazelwood, O'Fallon, St. Charles, St. Louis, St. Peters)... V-Stock and Vintage Stock are the same thing - they have 6 Kansas City, MO area stores (plus three more just over the Kansas border in the Kansas City, Kansas area) and 3 stores in the St. Louis area (Mid-Rivers, Chesterfield, South County).

    Our website is:  FaceBook.com/SteelCollectibles

It would be awesome if we could be added to the retro video game store list for Georgia. Thanks!

Awesome! I'll definitely be stopping by. The store looks great from your pic!

I've heard nothing but bad things about that store.
  • GSI Pawn Shop in tooele, utah has a lot of vintage games for sale.

and they list their inventory online.

    http://www.gsipawnshop.com/video_games.html
  • There is Robot City in Johnson City NY, Has a classic arcade as well pretty cool place.
  • "We Got Game" - Mankato, MN (locations in the Twin Cities as well)

Not "by" me, per se, but it's about the closest there is. Selection is okay, games are priced accordingly. They resurface the scratched games for free upon purchase (which is about a $3 service in my neck of the woods).

Only place in Southern MN with Saturn imports and Master System games in the same building...

EDIT: DOH! I see it's already been added to the thread. Oh well, consider this my "review" of the store.

Yeah dude read my review of their Harrodsburg store, its the same BS. I had a stack of 5200 games that weren't priced, and he was sitting there on Amazon pulling up sealed and CIB prices for 2600 versions and giving me the prices! At one point he even spun the screen around and said "see! I'm not making this up, that's what it sells for!" and he has a CIB of the wrong game on the screen LOL! Even with his stupidity I ended up getting 2 $30 games for like $2 or $3 a piece while the games he had that were ACTUALLY worth $3 he wanted $30 for! He didn't even know what a 5200 was!!!

If you want things to change at all, go on Facebook, Yelp, Google, etc and give them reviews and say exactly what happened. With enough stories like this, they will either be forced to change how they do business or they will go out of business just like The Playroom did. The a-hole at The Playroom did the EXACT same stuff, I would bring a stack of NES games to the counter, all with price tags on them, and he would change the price of EVERY game at the register. He'd be like "oh this one's $20, this one's $36" and he would even claim that "someone" switched the tags on all the games. Well they are no longer there and its only a matter of time before the same thing happens to this place if they keep doing this crap. Unfortunately, places like this get tons of good reviews from people who don't even know other retro game stores exist so for every story like ours, there are 10 "OMG THIS PLACE IS SO KEWL, THEY HAVE THAT MARIO GAME I HAD WHEN I WAS A KID!!!11" reviews

  • Just a few updates for Illinois.

Super Cheap DVDs closed down as did Cyb Knights Games. Half Price Books opened another location in Schaumburg and Video Games Then and Now opened another location in Des Plaines.

Oh man, their response to your review was the worst part: "You are more than welcome to come in and speak with the owners about the differences in retail sales vs. online sales and how that applies to the business world."

Is that why the sticker-residue covered copies of Persona 3 + 4 they just posted are $10 more than what they're going for new on Amazon? Guess they need to go back and take a class on the difference between a business that respects their customers and one that's just out to take advantage of them.

  • That's super risky if you're one of those strip mall stores that gets like 8 customers a day, with half of them being Pros.

    I hate prices like 40.99

just put the damned thing for 39.99 or 44.99. Just looks petty like they are squeezing that last dollar out of you

Yes. I know the Owner, Alan. I lived in Whitewater for 5 years when attending College there. I was one of his regulars. Got most of the games before he was even able put them on the shelves. Good times and I got some great prices on games at the time..

  • New entry: Galaxy Games, Dublin California

Place was predominately about MTG. NES/SNES selection was abysmal, but I walked out with two NES titles I didn't have for slightly less than pricecharting values. Photos on Yelp initially drew me in (showed a decent variety of titles, alas those pictures were taken in 2013). If you were looking for PS2, Xbox, or Gamecube, the inventory was much better. Big problem was customer service. As I stood at the counter, there was nobody behind it, but rather, just two tables of guys playing MTG. Eventually, somebody from a table spoke up "Do you need help?". Evidently, the worker/owner/whatever was playing MTG and didn't even notice me standing there. What's worse, when he came around, he seemed surprised that I had two NES games in my hand wanting to make a purchase.

I won't go there again; it's in an odd location for me, I don't play MTG, prices were meh, and I can't imagine their retro stock really fluctuates that much given the quantity and quality of what I saw.
