Game Boy Advance SP Blue Demo Dummy System Handheld Only
So I was out garage sale-ing today and came across this really weird SP. It was on the table and first I was like oh cool a Blue SP. Then I picked it up, opened it up and it's just like a preview system. The lady who sold it to me said she got it from Game Crazy which used to be like a Gamestop inside of Hollywood Video stores. I've never seen one before but it feels like a standard SP, same weight and stuff. Anybody know what this would have come with or maybe the kiosk it would've went into? Price info would also be appreicated. Thanks!

I just called them. Whoever I spoke to on the phone is a douche and no wonder they have 2.4 stars out of 5 with 16 reviews on Google. Ok, you own a game store, own one of these Dummy Units and have no idea what it's worth. Thanks for your help!

Does it function at all or is it a dummy unit?
It doesn't function at all.

How did you come to this price? Just curious.
Here's a 3ds dummy console that I think is a little more cool than the SP, and it went for around $100.

I just weighed it against a regular SP and the dummy weighs 5.6 ounces while a normal one weighs 5.4. I have no idea what's actually in this thing. I may open it up and take a look.

If it'll open, you might as well. It would be interesting just to see. Also, I noticed what I assume is a built in empty cartridge, so that would add a little weight.

About $30-$40 imo, sold the few I had for $40 and struggled at that. Had them in Silver, Red & Blue.
Do recall when these were going for under $40. Wasn't that about 2 years ago maybe sooner when you had them on EBay?

Like 50-150 depending on the collector and what they are willing to spend. I think its a neat curiosity so we just hang onto it until someone is serious about buying it.
If $150 offer wasn't enough to seal the deal what did you think it was worth? Or was the $150 a suggested price from a collector tossing their 2 cents in?
My take on this is limited to my past experience with what I have bought and collected. The 3DS posted above is an example for in house Nintendo product review. Where as is the majority of SP systems were field samples. These were given to Nintendo reps and left with store owners/managers for them to see the new style, weight, and size. They were a way to get them familiar with the upcoming change in Nintendo's line of hand helds. The in house units were never meant to make way into the general publics hands. So being the ones that did usually are more expensive then store samples. Hopefully that sheds some light on the 2 and the differences between them.
Most where just on displays in stores that you could pickup and look at sample SP. They do come up for sale quite often on eBay UK.

I think it's important to consider that SP's came out 7-8 years before the 3DS....In my opinion it makes it that much more rare, especially to find a minty one.
So I auctioned this guy off, I'm not too thrilled with $43 it went for. I only payed $1 for it but if my buyer doesn't pay, which he hasn't yet. I'm just going to keep it. I appreciate all the contributions to this thread. This system really seems like a "it's only worth what somebody is willing to pay" type item.

Yes the SP is an older system but in the comparison made it doesn't come into account. The SP was on display in stores and made available to the public. The 3DS system that sold on E-Bay was an in house Nintendo item. So being an in house item fewer were made and not released to the public. If this SP was in house or the 3DS was in store, age could come into account. The fact it sold for $43 it's inline with previous sales. Understand completely why both you and SavePointVG's feel it's worth more. Some items are just not worth selling unless you have the right buyer that appreciates it as much as you do.
Granted these are rarer than functional units, but the fact they are non-functional makes them paperweights. The fact no box or documentation exists also makes it less collectible.
Rarity =/= value. Value is more or less a function of rarity × desirability. So the GBA brick is rare but not desirable, hence the low price tag.
