I have a NWC gold cart

  • The easiest way to make sure another fake doesn't pop up is to keep track of the ones we have. The ones found up till now are all real. Any others that pop up will require a trail that leads to the name of the NP magazine winner.

A baseball is worth a few bucks but if you can prove it was a game used homerun ball its worth a bit more. If it was an important homerun then its worth even more. If you can't prove it then its just a baseball.

If a new NWC pops up and it can't be proven to be real then it will be suspect and I think it will sell for quite a bit less. Documented proven gold NWCs will sell for quite a bit more and will still retain their value.

You can't take the importance out of this cart by making fakes. You can make it harder to prove thou.

  • aren't the boards on the originals much different as well? Seems to that it could be proven to be real/fake pretty easily by opening it up?

Yes, this seems like the easy obvious way to see if it's real or not. But what's to stop somebody from gutting a legit NWC gray and putting it into their own custom made NWC gold shell?

Wow... Thats something I never thought of... Thats a quick way to make up the price on your cart by about 5 grand...
  • I wouldn't worry. They won't fly at shows obviously, and online any idiot could just steal an image from a previous auction and send you an empty box, why would they go to the trouble to make something that looks real on the outside but any joe w/a gamebit can detect. Scammers will continue to scam in their narrow quick work-free ways. As far as a grey-to-gold conversion...that's a thought, but anyone with real knowledge will be able to detect this I think. I'm sure the decal colors/composition are all slightly off, it's got to be impossible to make a perfect facsimile.
  • Well, I am going to try to do the same thing that OCDsteeldor did. I'll post pics here if I am successful.

  • Most of the gold carts passed through my hands anyway, and I know who I go them from, so if one comes up for sale, it can be authenticated.
  • The only thing I could think of that would be the difference is the DIP switch thing looks slightly different, though maybe that's not it.  The black piece behind it seems longer on the real cart.
  • I thought the real ones have a different feel to the outside of the case as well, they feel more smooth than a zelda or zelda II cart IMO. and the color seems just a shade different, I could be crazy though.

  • NGD, I was wondering about that. I had assumed it was the same thing but you've "experienced" one in person. Perhaps it was the thrill of the moment that biased your perception though image
  • I was thinking the same thing. I was starring and bunnyboy's pretty hard. Grab and run , lol. image image

  • the gold to grey thing is interesting although I guess that's always been possible - the repros aren't needed for that.
  • I think Gemfire has a huge board. You could almost pull it off.
