The reason he and I didn't bother with this project this year is because beating every licensed game has already been accomplished, so what's the point of doing it twice? Especially when the goal of beating the whole library has not yet been accomplished at all, so it would have been something cool to shoot for.
I don't think the PAL library had ever been completed before, had it? So this year is a first.
The advantage of this year's approach is that the goal was -- evidently -- quite achievable (and there's the fringe benefit of freeing people up to work on the SNES, N64, or Game Boy efforts).
I think scaling back our ambitions after 2 consecutive years of failure was justified. But I also think the unlicensed games should certainly return in 2016, and -- once Mutant Virus goes down -- that the licensed US + PAL library will now officially be "done" as a single goal.
(Unless, that is, we attempt the full set on the hardest difficulty settings...)
I kind of think that it is neat to do this every year because it can always include newer members if they choose to be a part of it.
Oh, and one more thing, in the final stage there is actually one fewer counter measure than there is virus spouts. So not only do you need to know where to lay down your counter measures, but you need to figure out which generator can be fought without one. If I remember correctly, it was the room to the left of the starting room that I was able to knock off without using counter-measures, but I may be mistaken there. Aside from that, it's just a matter of persistence...you'll do it eventually

I made maps!
Yeah, I had it all up in my head when I was playing it. Left my system on for over 6 days because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get back to where I was. But yeah, figuring out which room can be beaten without covering one of the virus generators is one of the keys to winning.
Oh, one more tip...well, one that kind of follows what I'd said before about the time limit and how it works, but what may not have been obvious - if you have the choice between going to a room that's already pink, or one that's black, take the pink one. It makes one more room the virus has to hit before causing major issues. Hope my tips help
So kind of a necro bump, but wanted to see about next years.
What would you guys feel about dragon warrior's gold chest glitch being used? I was wanting to try to speed run dragon warrior, and try that out. To do that, I'd need to abuse a glitch in the game that takes 20 mins to do, but saves about 1-2 hours of grinding for gold. I hope to beat the game in about 7 hours this way. My goal is to actually try to beat Zelda, Metroid, DW 1 and final fantasy in one day. One day total, not each.
Edit: i guess I should point out it's not a glitch that will allow me to skip sections, or beat bosses or anything like that. So it's not on par with any game breaking glitches, it's just a step above Zelda 1 door glitch.
I was planning on trying to beat Zelda, Metroid, Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy all in the same day, but I've not gotten around to speed running the last two (First two you don't need to speed run, both are 45 min games with moderate skill)
Ah, but the full NES library has never TRULY been finished...
That's the plan for 2016, right? US + PAL, licensed + unlicensed?
I think it'd be awesome if people threw real muscle into the SNES effort, though it's the toughest one of all in some ways.
EDIT: Never mind, looks like Rally Bike has been updated -- cool.
How many games is that?
Which, the SNES or the NES licensed + unlicensed set? SNES is typically 720 or 725 depending on who's counting; Rooster lists it as 722 but I've never been able to follow his math.
To get NES licensed + unlicensed, take what's in this thread and add 91, as seen here.

Congratulations!
You guys really breezed through this this year. I was going to play a few more, but everything I was planning on playing was beaten by March.
...now you can help us with the struggling SNES thread!
A: Yes.
Nice job Nick & everyone here! I have a bunch of stats to post later.
Let's all do this again next year! (But with unlicensed games, too!)

LOL you were wrong about those ones
I did expect Bases Loaded 4 to still be here in October though.
This was a very close drawn competition, and I hope I will be able to do it again next year and beat you this time.
And yes, the SNES and/or N64 libraries would be great new targets until 2016; the N64 library is especially doable.

Thanks all, and great job everyone else! Let's flood the SNES thread now and see if NA can beat all of those .
Promises!
What's the plan for next 2016?
I'm ready to beat some games in January!!
Hey, anybody remember this thread?

The plan is that this mountain has already been climbed and we're all moving on to the next peak.... SNES!
Anybody?........ anyone? *cough*

I think it'd be awesome if people threw real muscle into the SNES effort, though it's the toughest one of all in some ways.
EDIT: Never mind, looks like Rally Bike has been updated -- cool.
