Louvre Nintendo 3DSXL Audioguide

Hey guys,

Afew months ago I bought a "broken" 3dsxl from ebay, turns out the 3ds wasnt broken, it was an Audio Guide from the Louvre, since this is something that doesnt really exist in the wild, what do you guys think it is worth?

  • I'm not entirely sure of a price, but is this a pre-installed program that loads automatically? Also, is the DS system itself any different physically--maybe some writing on the front or back casing, something blocking the cartridge slot, etc? I'm just trying to see if there is anything differently physically, as I think the Louvre guide was available in the eshop for download.  It certainly would go for more than a regular 3DS system if it can be identified as that, even the US versions of the kiosk system (that won't play without being plugged in) will go for more than a regular system if auctioned properly.
  • You can rent the consoles for the tour. They actually have hundreds of these and can be seen in this video at the the rental desk http://www.louvre.fr/en/audio-guide Still a neat item that unless you went on the tour you would be hard pressed to buy one.
  • Its not pre installed, its customized firmware, it wont start up unless the cart and sd are both inserted, it comes with a unique cart (a boot card). Its really weird that this started circulating in Australia, jumping from person to person who didnt know what it was, I assume someone took it from the tour thinking it was a normal console and then could get any games to work, so sold it as "broken". Also I think audio is disabled on the device, I originally thought it was broken, but nothing seems to be damaged. I guess they didnt want a whole bunch of people with loud audio devices going around the museum. Could someone find out if that is the case?
  • That's pretty interesting, no writing on the back or any marking discerning it from a regular DS though? Maybe there's a QR code where the serial number should be? Have you checked the microphone jack with headphones to see if that works? The pic on their site show people walking around with headphones, so it would make sense if the speakers were disabled.
  • So it's not running the same 3DS cart that the Louvre sells?

I bet the audio only works via headphones, as to not distract others while wandering the museum.
  • Cosmetically it looks the same as a normal 3ds, the serial number is REF100042702, headphones work
